Err....I said he does the quotations at weekends. He & his Dad fit all week.0 -
What a difference a day makes ~ we had a hard frost first thing this morning ..... grass all white ..... looked lovely. Warmed up a bit now though & the bird baths have already defrosted ~ it even looks like the sun is trying to come out again :j
alfie, hope you get your pension sorted out. Another 'ouch' to your son's injury!!
Dave, I suppose that's a good sign that the Heating Engineer is so busy. Hope his quote (when you eventually get it) is decent. We really need a new combi boiler but I'm putting off getting someone in as long as possible as I don't want to pay for it!!

Sorry, misread it. I blame it on the sinusitis
:D
I disturbed a girt, big heron from beside one of the ponds early this morning. He caught sight of me moving through the window. Boy, has he made a mess so he must have been there for quite some time - taking advantage of the easy target the frogs & toads are at this time of the year, I guess.0 -
can't flipping warm up at all in work,
sitting in my office, with heater on full blast.
ordered and got a whole lamb coming this afternoon for the freezer....
I sooooo love lamb....
feel's as though I am in 'limbo' Land this week,
calm before the storm type thing... I know over the next few weeks things will be a bit manic...( sorry can't go into detail on here, but one or two of you know the score...) and then things can get back on track.
right better get back and do some work:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
Woken in the wee small hours by two large badgers scrapping under the bird feeding table. Didn't run off when I shined the torch at them and shouted to "Get orf my land!" Who'd have thought they like grain?0

They'll eat just about anything, rozee, if it's readily available.0 -

I'm feeling a little "city" about the experience. Surely country folk feed the wild birds too?0 -

I'm sure some do
I think it much depends on the type of place & what the people do, if anything, for a living.
Around here the ex farm lab cottages seem to have the full whammy (bird tables, feeders & all the paraphernalia of wildlife houses). They're now homes for people who work in the towns. The cottage owners are also the ones who get the time to sit in the garden & watch the recipients :rotfl:
The farmers, on the whole, seem happy to know that some of the animal/poultry feed plus the hedgerows & nature will fill the wildlife menu. They see most wildlife & birds while they're out & about working so encouraging it up to the house isn't so high on the agenda, I suppose.
The ones I know are also disinclined to attract rats up close to the house.0 -
I used to feed the wild birds until I noticed many more rats about, often in broad daylight. With mixed grain, some birds will pluck out and drop the seeds they dont want, creating a nice meal for our furry friends.
The other unintended side effects were birds regularly striking the patio doors and frequent piles of feathers where the sparrowhawk had feasted
The chooks food hopper is raided by some wild birds but we take all the feed in at night to discourage vermin0
