A gorgeous day today filled with sunshine
Tomorrow and Sunday are going to be garden days and I am really looking forward to going out and getting things done. There are so many things to do and I am not sure what to start on first. The gentleman are going to take care of the heavy digging and I am torn between weeding and tackling the greenhouse and potting shed.
I think the greenhouse and potting shed probably take priority as things will be going into them long before they are going into the ground. I want to clear all the junk out the potting shed and paint the inside so it is impractically pretty, there may even be buntingIn my mind I can see it as a gorgeous wee bolt hole where I can hide in the summer. My OH also suggested getting it wired up so that it could have lights and heat :j to make spring planting all the more enjoyable.
The greenhouse is also pack with stuff and needs weeding and cleaning, there are also a number of panels that need to be replaced but I have no idea where to get them from, maybe B&Q? It shouldn't take too long but I will need to do a few runs to the tip.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
A gorgeous day today filled with sunshine
Rummer, some sun would be lovely, could you send it down here please
We've cancelled a weekend buying trip while we try to recover from our lurgies.
With mostly cold and gloom over the last fortnight spring bulbs are still struggling to come out but a couple of days of sun and warmth should change that. I want this winter over!0 -

Sun??!! Form an orderly queue behind me, rhiw.
Actually, I think you & I share opposite ends of the same ruddy cloud across the Channel.
Yes, stay in & try to shake it. I already have one friend whose lurgy has descended into pneumonia _pale_.
As you say, the early showing has staggered to a halt. Nothing much is happening outside growing wise which may be no bad thing as it's far too cold to be out there doing anything unless you really have to.
Following on from the horsemeat saga.

Been a grey day here, and cold too. Rummer, you're lucky to have some sunshine! :j Shouldn't really complain, as last week when we did have some sun it got up to 92F in our front porch!!! No wonder the 2 open flowers on the amaryllis went over so fast! But there are the last 2 blooms open still, which I'm happy about as it was a Xmas prezzy from DD1 and her hubby, and they are visiting this weekend so will see how long their thoughtful present lasted.
This will be the last time DD1 visits before she produces GS3! She's due towards the end of the month, only finished work yesterday. They may be late arriving today as Virgin trains to Liverpool and Manchester are having problems with their overhead power lines. Hope that their journey is as comfortable as possible, imagine given DD1s size (she was huge when we saw her a month ago, so must be positively whale like in size now!) they may well upgrade to 1st for the extra space.
OH is having a lie down, he's still exhausted after this virus we've had, and he'll need to get to the station later to collect the travellers. I've been awake since about 3.30am, my sleep patterns are all to hell post virus, and we're both hacking away with gruesome coughs. But OH saw doc earlier this week, and he doesn't have a chest infection, it's just the post viral cough. He really wanted to get checked out before DD1 visited as the last thing she needs at this stage of pregnancy is the CRUD virus! Doc said he's OK from that point of view.
If we get decent weather this weekend I need to prune the leaders off the apple tree. I know it's late to be doing that, but given the state of our health we haven't had much chance to do it sooner! The snowdrops are flowering, and the first of the crocuses. There are buds on the daffodils, but no flowers yet.
Last year our early flowering camellia had its first bloom open on New Years Day, and it flowered on and on for months. This year it has plenty of buds, but they are all tightly furled still. I should have brought some in to try and force them so DD1 could see them but it's too late for that now!0 -
Our far orchard apple trees will mostly have to do their own thing this year, Maggie, as I've no time to prune them now.....Be lucky to get my hedge laying completed at this rate!
With the builders starting on Monday 8am on the barn, we rushed down there today and filled the van with scrap iron hoarded inside, then cleared as much space as we could. The sand and cement arrived this afternoon, so we have all the materials in place and a load of carp for the scrappie.
I then gave the poles they'll be repairing a good dose of a "well known oil-based product" in order to see off the woodworm that have taken a liking to them.
It will be so nice to listen to howling gales in future and not worry that the end of the barn will collapse! More to the point, we'll be able to fill the end in fully and start using it properly.
In other news, the garage reluctantly let me have my car back for the weekend. They said that after repairing two snapped wires on a faulty door lock, the whole central locking system is now refusing to work. Apparently, it could be one of several chips malfunctioning, but they need a special machine that can talk to the car. So, next week Mr Garage will take the car home to South Molton for a day or two to have it psycho- analysed by his friend's computer.
No doubt, when I finally get the bill it'll be me that will be down as a special case for treatment, but I have to say they go the extra miles here rather than just shrugging and ordering a whole new pile of bits.0 -
ITSME... so we are going to have more poop weather:o:o
Hubby's cold had come back again today... I am coughing like a good un..
I think all this damp weather is really taking its toll on everyone...
Rhiwie.... hope staying in this weekend will finally get rid of your lurgy...
Its officially spring today,
SO who's got what planned for the weekend?
I haven't got a clue what we are doing yet, but I am sure there will be loads of cuppa's and biscwits involved:cool::DWork to live= not live to work0 -
At the moment the forecast looks like you should have maybe 4 sunny, chilly days then it gets warmer but cloudy with rain or showers & then it goes cold again.
Basically it's the same old story - everything but sun + warmth together ........ sorry
I'm longing for spring to really show it's face. It seems such a long time since there's been any really decent weather.
Nothing planned for this weekend other than to watch some things on the box. Not very positive, I know, but we're both really trying to shift this cold/cough/catarrh/sinusitis thing.0 -
morning all:beer::beer:
don't know why but I have woken up in a good mood today:eek::rotfl: I should imagine this will soon change over time today:rotfl:
I have been talking on a thread over in the food section about cat food. didn't realise it only has 4% meat content.
so I have worked it out that I spend approx £1.50ish on 3 tins of cat food a day, and it wouldn't be that much diff in price to feed them fresh meat/ fish etc. scraps, raw chciken wings, tinned pilchards etc.
so far it feels as though they are purring louder, and more contented:rotfl: my cats are indoor cats now, there is no way I can leave them out with the supermarket soooooooooooo close, and 1 cat used to that area being her hunting ground.
Hubby still not well, so going to leave him have a proper lay in..
Also in four days time it would have been a year to the auction day we bought our ranch...
where has the year gone????? ye I know it was washed away with all the bloody rain:mad::mad:Work to live= not live to work0 -
A sunny, chilly day here today ~ gorgeous!! Could do with being a bit warmer though.
Sounds like everyone is busy and/or illHope everyone gets better soon.
CTC, it must be a year since I started reading this thread then ~ how time flies when you're enjoying yourself!!Are you doing anything special to mark the occasion??
Does anyone have any Dogwood in their garden?? The red one. I've seen some around where I live & it's looking beautiful at the moment, especially in full sun.
My daffs are coming up blindI think I'll have to buy some 'ready-made' & put them in pots to brighten the garden up ~ it's looking so boring out there.
Enjoy your weekend everyone'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Morning
It is a bit dull here today but at least it is dry and we have a few friends coming round today to help us :j it means so much to me that they are giving up a day to help us get back on track after the year we have had. Things here are still not good so I am making the most of every wonderful thing that happens
I have decided to plant up some pots, work on the shed and the greenhouse and plan out where I am going to grow a few things. I will need to get the house cleaned first and get some baking done so no one goes hungry.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
