I have a weekend away this weekend, I don't want to get snowed off! It looks like it'll be worse here than where I'm going though, so fingers crossed!

We're not expecting it to be that bad here and any one who was wandering in this direction would be shown where the kettle was for emergency internal warming. I might even bake a cake on Friday.....if nothing else, dh likes cake and I bought a book which has a bay leaf and lemon cake recipe that sounds interesting.

But, if anyone were heading this way I would also say that if it were dangerous to cancel and that we could also do a date towards the end of February.

It's just below zero. I was out tonight but the roads were safe, though for all but my least favourite main road junction I stuck to main routes instead of my normal lanes.

Okay! The chicken shed has arrived. (Does a little dance).

Any thoughts on where is best to place it?

There is a really sunny spot at the back of the house, which I can see from the rear window of the caravan. It would be a great place to grow veggies but frustratingly, it is right by the septic tank! I'm speculating that a septic tank is not a good place to be growing veggies? There was clearly stuff leaching out of it into the stream before we had it desludged earlier this year.... Any reason why I can't put the hen house there though?

It's not a huge coop and we'll probably put it on wheels so it's not a permenant site, anyway. I'd like it to be close enough to the house so it's easily accessible to the children. They've only got little legs at the moment :p

If its on wheels keep moving it. In summer they will appreciate half sun half shade ( or all shade if it's hot) but ow they want all sun. Put so the coop is a bit softened from prevailing wind ( usually that's the back of he house into the wind)

Hi ya all. Thanks for the burning yesterday.

Everything was so wet here too we managed to burn some old cardboard & paperwork. I should post on the blog & lodge a link.

Finding it hard to keep up with you all. Been listing & watching OCD like to see what it getting watched, but bids are slow coming in.

Rhiwfield - Your rhubarb is amazing at this time.

We have !!!!! willow out & the bulbs shooting up but it's bitterly cold here.

Went over by to a talk by a chicken breeder - Really fascinating stuff, First time I've been anywhere this year just about.

We should get the rest of the roof sheeting ( that was supposed to be here with the rest) delivered tomorrow at the top of the track if it isn't road blocked with snow overnight. Too icy to put it on the actual roof but at least it's gonna all be on site - once we've carried it down here. Hope it aint windy or we'll blow across the Loch......

Must get to bed as I'm feeling the cold coming up the soles of my feet. Caravan's aren't for life....but 4 & a bit years is feeling like a life sentence this past wee while.
  • Morning all,
-5 here this morning, it was already -2 when I got home from work yesterday at 5pm. I think I will ask DH to assess the weather for the weekend as, although I'm going by myself, he's a much more experienced driver in icy conditions and will know better what I should be capable of without coming to harm. Can't guarantee what other people will do, but such is life! But if it's as it is now when I leave, it should be okay. And I won't be driving in the dark, either. All except the last 20 miles I'm familiar with which helps too.

Everybody please keep safe and warm today, don't go out unless you have to! Wish I could follow my own advice *mumble grumble* but I have to go to work :(

will not be putting nothing on the bay until after we come back, but I have found some lovely things;) while rummaging for material..:D

Just damp and grey here with 4C at the moment....

Hang on, there are a few snowflakes coming from your direction CTC, so I'm off to do the hens, pronto!

Edit: I was totally wrong about the wind direction, which is SSE. A few snowflakes, but Dartmoor is visible, so no need to panic...... yet. :o
