Morning [just about]
Hope all is well with everyone.
LIR - hope you are ok.
I went to look at the community garden yesterday and to drop some stuff off for next week's sessions - and lo and behold, the trial damson that I grafted onto a wild damson root stock has taken and is budding. I only did it in November.
With the changing seasons, I thought I'd try grafting early and it's only gone and worked.
So for the next few weeks, it's going to be grafting frenzy at the gardens.
Yip yip yippee!!!If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

My wee brain is in overdrive today after I read last night about pensions being delayed until people are in their 70s  what a horrid thought! So I am going to start taking things a bit more seriously when it comes to money saving as I want to get our finances into a MUCH stronger position.
The way things are going I expect to see all benefits under scrutiny and reduced by means testing, deferral or by linking to cheaper index/capping. So relying on the state is the biggest gamble of all going forward.
Its too late for us to start additional saving for old age and the provisions we've made in the past will have to do. But an examination of outgoings has been useful eg cutting water charges by installing a meter, putting in water butts and cutting energy usage by insulation and low energy appliances. And with the increase in pension age comes an ability to work longer for most people.0 -
Rummer I have said for a few years now, that there will be no state pensions etc, The government IMO are starting the first steps now, by employers now have to supply a works pension, and also not only do the employee's contribute, but the employer has to contribute to it too , unless the employee decies to opt out, and I think alot of people will, because they are finding it hard now, let alone adding another outgoing to it...
So I think the key is to try and not go into pension age with any debt, so then you have only got actual living expensesWork to live= not live to work0 -
I would just like to prepare as much as possible and to create as sensible a buffer as I can. There are so many ways we could trim back our living costs and I have just been too lax in pursuing them.
As you say Rhiwie there are likely to be more cuts and restructuring of pensions/benefits etc and I am trying to build the mindset of that money possibly not being there in my future.
It is hard though to strike a balanceTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Sorry folks, didn't mean to leave you hanging...
Yes I am fine today, my pelvis will need a manipulation, it's about two inches tis quint, but not at all sore, not even a tiny bit.
Geese survived the night, everything else ship shape.
Rain is forecast to start again here tomorrow though.
Edit....in fact....the old lir weather detecting system says its going to get colder. Let's see.0 -
I have organised my seeds by planting month divided by indoor and outdoor sowing. Do you think I maybe have too much time on my hands :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Glad you're OK, LIR.
Just don't do the bend & lock (or bend to lift & lock) with the wonky pelvis. Been there done that - not nice :rotfl: Felt like something out of a comedy clip.
A drier day here as the mizzle lifted. Still no real sun & a slightly nippy breeze. I live in hope that one day we may get sun with no cold wind.
Had a lazyish day. Just walked down the 1 in 3-4 hill ........ & then back up. We were both fairly pleased as we only had to sit down once on the way back.:D
The water has washed the edges of the lane away in places & the stream is running wider & faster than I can ever remember it doing. A number of trees have split & large sections fallen but it was a nice walk. We gave the sheep & deer something to look at, anyway. :rotfl:
The frogs are really starting to mass in the ponds. The water is writhing with them & they make an enormous racket. They can't have worked themselves up to their erotic peak yet, though, as they dived for cover when I yelled at them to shut up. It won't be long before they totally ignore me & continue with their 'exercise' regardless :rotfl:0 -
Saw some glimpses of sun today and got two beds planted with onions, as well as cutting down the autumn raspberries and planting a dozen potted strawbs saved from last year's runners.
We'll see how well they do!
Itsme, our tiny pond is too shaded for the frogs, though we usually get a few dragonflies. At least its a permanent water source for the birds, not that it matters atm!
Lir, glad nothing too serious.0
