I've just been looking up what we could have expected in 1013...

December – King Sweyn I leads a Danish invasion of England. Brits found it increasingly hard to source British bacon. The red tractor symbol would not be invented for another 980 years. :(

King Ethelred flees to Normandy, and Sweyn becomes King of England. Well, when was Ethelred ever ready for anything? :p

The Poles withdraw from Pomerania (approximate date). Another thousand horse & cart washes opened in the UK :)

German KingHenry II conducts his second Italian campaign
"Ve haf vays of selling zem ze Betterware."

    Not much different really. :)

(On re-reading, this is quite embarrassing 'cos I haven't drunk much.... yet! :o:o:o)

    :T:T:T brilliant ! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Good morning to you all. This brand new year got off to a flying start when I was awoken at 7.30am by the sound of really intense rain hammering on the windows.....:(

....But it's cheered up since then. :D

Getting my head around the different house plan DW has come up with, the only objection is that I prefer kitchens to face north, keeping them cool in summer. Ours also faces the road, so we can keep an eye on what's going on. ;)

We spend quite a lot of daylight time in the kitchen, so having it facing the main garden would also be good.

DW's plan would give us a much better lounge, shape & size-wise....

Aarrgghh! The year is only hours old, and we already need to make a decision!:rotfl:
  • Good morning all, and welcome to 2013!

This is going to be a year of big changes for me/us here at Alexander Towers. I've made a commitment to losing weight (joined slimming world online), the house will be on the market as soon as the photos are done (just waiting on the last one which is front of house, because when the agent came out there was a van in the way  ) and I've decided if the house isn't sold by July I'll be looking for a new job. In fact, I may do it sooner than that, just because it's not mentally stimulating enough for me and stress levels are too high. Life's too short to be unhappy with work. So change my weight, change my house, change my job.

I hope this year brings you many of the things you want with the tiniest pinch of "I didn't expect that" to keep you on your toes and make you appreciate what you have :rotfl:But we all do that anyway, us Dreamers!

    With love and best wishes,
    Alex

My kitchen is both north and south facing. The french window to the south means we can open it up, and a window on the otherside in our case, for a cross breeze, Also.....heavily lined curtains or blinds will do wonders for keeping cool.

A road view is good, another option is the possibility of no one being sure whether or not you are home (that's my prefered option tbh.) Views are vital, as my guess is you look out during the day when you are mainly in the kitchen. A small visual delight made to look good from illuminate light thrown out by the living room, or some solar lights or something, can cheer up an evening view. My guess is gardeners as talented as you will have no 'sad' outlook any way.

Ok, well, we have had some sun, and would like to have been out trying to clear the debris a little, but forgot this morning was hunting morning locally, so having turned the horses out for the first time in what feels like forever but is probbably about a fortnight, we then had to catch them again to put them through into the other field where they cannot access the yard...grrrr. Took ages.

Now we are refuelling with cuppa tea then I am going to start that winter pruning.

It's obviously still to wet to do anything to the soil, and probably to strim or brush cut......everything is so heavily wet the blades would dull quickly I think.

But if we get the trees done then may be some weeding might be possible, at least at the front of the borders. Tulips are already appearing up from the soil. Things are coming alive, and I haven't dealt with anything I needed to while OT was dormant. If the ground is dry enough to get a barrow across we might get a couple of loads of manure on some beds as a mulch.

We can have 'nice' views north, south and most of east too. :D If they are not fully nice ATM, it's because we haven't hidden ugly things. :o

West is a hedge, but at least it's a rare hedge and a good windbreak. :)
