Rummer, can I ask what type of wood you're thinking of using for your raised borders?? I was toying with the idea of getting some railway sleepers but think the cost will be prohibitive, even though we only have a tiny garden. I want the garden to look nice, but be productive.

We just used pressure treated wood from B&Q it was under £4 per plank and it took two to make our beds. They are not the most glam but they look ok and function well. I would have loved the railway sleeper look but they were  expensive around here and I would not justify the cost.

Mind you our beds are in the side garden and we relax/entertain in the back so the look was not as important to us. If the beds were going to be in a highly visual area and I was planning on staying in the house forever then I would have saved up ;)

I recall once needing a wee desparately and looking for a public loo. After an hour of vain searching the nearest wall sufficed, even though it was by a busy road

If you could persuade your bladder challenged dustman to urinate on your compost heap you'd be doing him a favour and getting some free compost activator ;)

Carpish day, sent off nearly 30 parcels, got a heavy and genuine refund request and I didnt win a million on the PSBs :(.

But got some fruit, veg and meat write down bargains as well :)

I think I am going to have to look for some sleepers for the new bit of garden, Any hints or tips on where to look?

Prefer untreated, but could use treated.

We found a few national companies but prices did not vary hugely. Sometimes ebay/gumtree have good prices or you could try local reclamation yards. Ours sometimes has them in.

MVF always source them when we need them, LIR. They often have them in stock.

Well, I 'll google the nationals then. Fwow, we have loads of sleepers making up our barn walls, so could raid them if price is really too high, but...barn walls kinda help too :D
  • Not stopped raining here although the really torrential stuff eased off about 11am. Personally I don't believ a word of th BBC's promises that we're in for a spell of dry weather :rotfl:

It's not that TV weather forecasters aren't bothered about our part of the world but if you live one side or other of the Bristol Channel you've long given up hope as you're permanently behind the weatherman's bl**dy pointing arm :rotfl:

I have been cleaning all day and I am fed up :( the downstairs is nearly done but the upstairs is a bit more . When I was young we were always told to start the new year the way we mean to go on and that included a clean and tidy house. Not that we ever manage to keep it up all year :rotfl:

Mind you I have planned a HUGE and DELICIOUS dinner for later ;)
