covenanter think i will take your advice and buy a lottery ticket..

Hubby stripped the barrel, and there was a wonky 'thing' in it, so took it out, and hay presto, key now works:T:T

hubby used to work in the motor trade, time served michanic, and was head michanic in a local main ford dealership...

where is the best place to buy a good quality wellies?

Yes i know i get wellies in all the time, BUT.. i find the tread underneath isnt that good, if that makes sense, and i dont feel safe walking in them... I used to have a pair of hunters years ago, but i dont know if the quality has changed, or if its just my age that is making me feel unsure on my feet:o:D
I bought some Hunter wellies last year and haven't worn them because they came up a very small 4 (note to self, always buy wellies a size larger0 and my feet are freezing in them. I'm much happier in my Merrel sleep skin lines weatherproof boots, wear them all the time, but they're not waterproof...
  • @CTC - There are lots of variations of Hunter. Take a look at their website or visit your local farming supply shop. They usually have a range of wellies including Hunter.

@rozee - We only had an architect to get plans through the planning stage but we knew our builders were long-established locally & capable of arranging all the various Inspections, organising the work schedules & getting in any necessary craftsmen as needed.
It's up to you whether you want to pay the architect.

The way things have been going lately I fully expect to see a whole host of Father Christmas' from the 50s, 60s & 70s accused of abuse. They used to make innocent little children sit on their knee & then give them a gift  ;):rotfl:

in the nicest possible way, i know the problem exists but please, lets not get into that sort of conversation on here... its xmas and we should think a little bit more cheery.

sorry if im a party pooper but ive had experience/helped [not me !] with someone and its not nice...

One of my twins, does not like Father Christmas. We had a right performance at the nursery Christmas concert today - of the wrong type (tears and tantrums... We are at that wanting to be independent stage)

No, you're absolutely right, alfie. For those who have suffered it is not funny.
    Nor for those unjustly accused.

I'll curb my errant sense of humour.
So no jokes about the carpet-carrying mobility scooter driver or that, presumably, nobody who believes the Mayan calendar has bothered with Christmas presents this year ;)

Well, first crimbo school play today and with all the bugs going around the cast was depleted to start with and a few of the reception class looked green about the gills (not easy if you're a sheep!)

The heat and the stress took their toll and the teachers were hauling out the poor mites all during the hour long performance, bless em!

But the camels survived without getting the hump and the big pink pig was rocking the house. Parents were carp at reindeer actions and the surviving performers (and briefly reintroduced casualties) trooped off to mass applause.

    Juniors on Thursday :D

Alf, stuff on way, hopefully to reach you by crimbo.

We need to make a flooring decision :( when we moved here I bought the carpet of my dreams (so I thought) and now it is done. The colour I chose was too light and the carpet was not tough enough to cope with our family so now I need to replace the living room carpet with something.

The floors here are solid concrete so we had really good underlay put down which should still be fine. Need to decide whether to go for wood or carpet, so confused.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • rummer a few years ago, when wood/laminate floor was all the rage, i wanted it, as it looked clean and easy to just swwp up etc, but then once a few of our friends had it, they were saying they didnt like it, due to the noise of walking on it, and all the dust etc

at the moment i want flag stones and rugs:D but where we are now we have, what was a light green carpet, that has been down 18 years, and has had to put up with 2 growing up kids, dog, cats, muddy shoes, tipped juice, tea, etc so you can imagine what colour and what state its in now:eek::cool:

To answere you question i would go with carpet:D

I took all my carpets in the preious house and got a joiner to lay solid wood floors. It was for a great price and it was fine for 13 years but this year, with all the moisture, the wood expanded as he hadn't left any expansion gaps and "cupped". It looked like an earth quake in parts! Fortunately, my builder (and jack of all trades) was able to lift up the floor partially and relay it, but it was a job and a half. Solid wooden floors are lovely though. It's what I'd go for if we weren't having underfloor heating.

We ahve lovely Fired Earth flag stones in Sheffield, but it's cold underfoot and I like to feel warm.
  • mr & mrs rhiwie and myself were talking about the bay etc, and we all agreed it is worth listing, so items will end the week between christmas and new year, so will be doing some listings to start on thursday to run for 5 days, so they will end on boxing night...

so the world will see more of my knickers:p
