Having project managed the re-build of our fire damaged house many years ago, I'd say that having someone else do it might save some time and stress, but there's nothing like hands-on for knowing exactly what is going on.
I was young and naive, so the experience was painful, but it taught me quite a bit.
We are lucky in having builders in the family who will always advise, but they are not here to make day to day decisions. I expect we'll DIY.
To my mind, the most difficult bit will be co-ordinating those doing the build and those installing the energy generation/heating side of things.0 -
I just would n't be without our man, Yes it's more expensive, but it's now things are going wrong he proves his worth even more.
So this morning I found someone's car had gone into our bit of post and rail we had put up earlier this year. Gutting. Smashed the end post and the rails are splinters. The whole fence is tipped to one side. Tomorrow I will see if I can get anyone to put it back up for us.

SO NICE TO HEAR FROM YOU.... funny enough davesnave was asking/thinking about you not so long back..
well had a day off work, and just went out shopping..... getting a bit manic out there is shopping land
Yes I was. I knew stitchy was posting elsewhere, awful stalker that I am!:o:o:D
I've just got home from shopping too, but here it takes quite a lot to make people even slighty manic. It wasn't what I'd call busy anyway. Maybe the majority have planned and done most of their buying.
I love listening to the folk around me.
Two old dears: "Well, this time next week t'will be all over!"
"Yes, I'll be glad to get back to normal...."
Gentleman passing by: "Tis bad nuff now, but 'tis gonna git worse layder!"
I think the old chap meant the weather, which was just murky & damp this afternoon, after some squally heavy rain overnight.
The rivers are full, but nowhere near bursting yet. Fingers crossed.0 -
Oh, I bought three of the new pink blueberries. The normal blueberries fly here, we love them and fresh they are so much better, The pink ones probably aren't as nice but might look pretty
. I also bought a white tree peony (both crocus sale purchases btw, have never bought from crocus before but browse there a lot)

Grrr indeed.
It's a difficult one. You want to protect the fence, but placing a large rock or concrete bollard there would probably be seen as dangerous.
There's a person not a million miles away who has sunk reinforced concrete pillars in the verge next to his house. I can understand the reasoning, but I think it might cause problems for him if there was an accident there, made worse by the existence of such solid structures.
Hope you get it sorted cheaply. Not worth an insurance claim.0 -

ATM all our blue berries are in pots. The plan was to use one of the old water tanks to fill with ericacious stuff, but they have become feeders full of hay now:D
We have some other things to turn into planters once we get this soft fruit area sorted. I have actually been looking at some of your permaculture things on the thread thinking they might be suitable.
It's such a tricky area, but with such good sun levels and currently a weed trap I would be happier to eradicate, it's stupid not to find a way to use it rather than strim it laboriously through out the summer.0 -
Where would you guys receomend buying soft fruit bushes from? I'm assuming you can buy bare rooted stuff now?0

Dont know about others but we bought our soft fruit on offer at garden centres. The blueberries have been in large pots for years and crop really well.0
