In fact, my neighbours at the other house sold to cash buyers who bid half a million over asking price to avoid a bidding war and then sold two years later to the people they were bidding against making a small loss I believe but have not actually heard from a horses mouth.
Cash buyers won't be troubled.
In view of the number of timewasters we had already asked the agent to only send cash buyers or people in a position to actually proceed. The agent reckoned they couldn't ask people if that were the case. IMO that's part of their job. They work on the theory that they'll send anyone & everyone they can in the hope that someone will be right.
Many cash buyers are currently looking for 'projects' so want fairly cheap & falling apart. Been there, done that ourselves. Maybe it was a waste of time & money?
Don't forget, lir, that you are much more commuter belt than down here. We're over an hour from a motorway & 4-5 hours from London.
You know the Sold Prices on Zoopla that are taken from the Land Registry? If you put in the first part of our postcode (no use putting the whole code in as the last sale here was 1998) it's fairly obvious that what's selling is predominantly the in-town or in-suburbs, so suitable for the FTB or BTL market.
I can offer you several medium to large hotels going for a song. A 30+ bed with beautiful views went for less than £750K.
We're neither fully commercial nor fully residential but have all the hassles involved with both.0 -

I never forget we are more commuter.....the mortgage payments don't let me!:D
The thing is, the lack of proximity to London hasn't stopped Cornwall booming for the kind of buyer you need, and a lot of the buyers i am talking about arenot Brits, and think little of four or five hours for (what is confused with) civilisation.
As for doing up.......I think unless doing it up for oneself or at cost.......I cannot see how there really is profit in it. My architect holds for good work there is not and never has been real profit for work done well, and cautions us that we get proportionately less back each stage of improvement here, and that if we were in it for profit now is the time to go, or before we did this stage (same issue, mortgage abilty.....because of the structural issues means now is probably more right for this place than before.
Because of things WE want.....certain materials etc, we haven't factored in profit there either......it's s totally different set of choices IMO.0 -
Lucielle/Alex, cheers for the updates
Its not nice out there today, just drove back from Cross Hands with boxes full of goodies (or expensive tat depending on your viewpoint!)
Fabulous scrolls, prob 19th century, being anatomical teaching aids by Ruddiman Johnson (see them in National trust Collection) But how saleable is an oilcloth scroll of a compound fracture of the leg
And just found out we left a box behind :mad:0 -

I guess we were lucky there as we never had mortgage payments. However, when we moved here the rates were less than £100pa. This year our CT was only a few quid short of £4K.
I'm not bothered by profit as such. If we had have been we'd have sold up while still trading with all cottages open. As I said I'm also half inclined to rip out the last cottage to make a sale easier. It would, obviously, mean a significant reduction in price but it would take the place back to being purely residential & remove at least one obstacle.
I'd quite like to have enough to buy/rent somewhere relatively decent albeit significantly smaller & having some money left for my old age, though0 -
been cwtched up on the sofa again today...got a funny feeling the cold i had is still lurking, and amy come back.. def the wrong time
Weather is getting worse as teh day goes on..

bought the chicken in our butchers only £6.99 suposed to be a medium sized one, but in the supermarket it would have been classed as extra large:rotfl:

Just read on the local traffic news that there is flooding on the main roads inland from us. Strangely, it hasn't really rained hard here today just a steady drizzle which, I guess, was enough.
Tonight is meant to be rough againso take care everyone.

Rhiwie... hubby will be passing Andrew's on monday if that is any good, he could pick your box up, and you could pick it up from us. It would save you a fair trek.... If this is ok, let me know, and also phone Andrew on monday to let him know we would be picking it up on your behalf...
Just heard Larry Hagman aka JR ewing has died....apart from Dallas I dont know what else he was in:cool: didnt he do alot of theatre????
Been racking my brains this afternoon, on what to buy family for christmas...:eek:
I have been cutting back year on year, but this year it is going to have to be cut back even more....
I must admit I am lucky in one way, because its only hubby our 2 boys, my parents and MIL to buy for.... I soooooooooooo pitty people who have alot to buy for...
Going to do a food hamper again for MIL and parents....it doesnt work cheap, but at least I know it will be used, not just put on a shelf, or cupboard to never be seen again.Plus they both will not try our meat:mad: they said because they seem then, they now know them, pitty as I could have given them a pork hamper:DWork to live= not live to work0 -
