I know there was a bumper crop on Exmoor last year so maybe, like apples, acorns have started alternating. The jays will be miserable as sin :rotfl:

i am actually surprised by that news article, cos the pannage pigs arent normally turned out till fall ? AND every keeper, groundsman, farmer ive spoken to have said NO acorns ?
keeper tonite was telling me it was costing him way more for feed for his pheasants as there was no acorns and every woodland critter whos diet normally involved acorns, was eating the feed he put out for his pheasants !!........

i have 3 major big oaks in my garden and theres usually a skating rink of acorns under it..........zilch :o
  • The weather?
Maybe it was too dry/wet/cold/hot at the wrong time ....... or maybe the recent gales have blown them all inland ;) :rotfl:
Maybe there was some poor s*d sheltering in their shed waiting for the hail of bullets (aka alfie's acorns) to stop.

:D Dave. You grew up in Devon. You should know that every year is dreckly.

Yes, but this year is extra-dreckly, and I'll admit that part of the problem is down to us. :o

We were just about sorted with Plan B for the bungalow, but then we decided to have one last look, and now it's been pretty much re-designed. We looked into pellet boilers, and that opened a whole extra can of worms.....

I think it's fair to say that the plan the architect left with us, bears only a passing resemblance to what we are looking at now.

    And the weeks tick by.....:(:o

:rotfl: OK. It was my imagination so I've just taken the shed away :D

Dave - Time passes much too fast, eh?
I guess we'll have to decide fairly soon whether it's worth putting the place up for sale in the spring or not. Still nothing moving locally that I can see & haven't heard that lenders are any more keen on mixed properties :(

when you say you "got your hay in" do you mean under cover or from the field ? do you cut your own ?

i havent used a bale of ours yet ! hoss's are in bottom field and the top field at the mo . let them have tues to thurs in bottom field for a bit of long grass [no goodness really, just roughage] then bring em up for long weekend. they have a field shelter and tend to congregate when its terrible weather. all you can see is a row [7] of faces peering out !!:rotfl:

hope everyone is safe and dry tonite ...

No we have to get it over east coast - too rocky here really, but I got really nice, sweet stuff for £3.50 @ bale which I think is good.
