Dont like being ill:o
full blown cold/flu just dosing myself up with panadols, as I think that what most of the cold remedies are anyway...Just leave it take its coarse...
Still aint tired of eating pork:D
Right need to go into work earlier today, loads of work... most of it is head work, and big decision making:o
Some times I just wish I just had a normal job where I didnt have to make decisions, or be responsible for people and their jobs etc..Work to live= not live to work0 -

Get well soon CTC/Rozee.
Bought some old postcards and there are pictures in them of old convalescent homes, and people writing home to wives, children, brother, sisters aunts.
One postcard seems to be an expression of affection to a young lady, but then its all crossed out. Never sent, so perhaps she never knew of his love for her.
And this photo, carrying on the sickbed theme, is probably 1920s/30s, of a hospital or convalescent ward. Long shot but any ideas of which establishment, there appears to be a Southend link via Mannings, 17 milton Street Southend.0 -

Mainly for davesnave.
This is a five day installation process. I will try and document each day.
Day one.
The pressure thingy and the actual boiler started to be fitted in. There is a nother pressure thingy for the hot water cylinder. This I understand needs to be at the 'correct' height which means taking more useable space at a comfortable reachable height.
It's hard to get engineers to consider aesthetics and household practicality. The small area under the pressure thing I will have boxed out and made into a small dog 'cabin' bed I think. It should be nice and warm by the boiler and a good use of this small space. We'll see at the end what it looks like, but I have tried to explain about the dust and hair balls one gets with animals and the wayu mud migrates from wellies in country houses and they look at me like I speak a foreign language. I have to admit the gaps and crevices worry me, and a boxing in solution might have been better to keep filth at bay.0 -
 I'm going to need photos to follow this, lir.
:rotfl:
Which make/model did you settle on?
I hope CTC, Rozee & anyone else with the lurgy is feeling better. There seems to be loads of things doing the rounds. We probably need a really cold spell to kill off some of the germs but I don't really want that sort of cold this side of Christmas :xmassmile
I can't help you with the photo, rhiw, sorry.
It seems to be a women's ward or convalescent home.
Southend has had a number (from a quick Google) including a Ranyard Mission at Tilbury House, Southend but I haven't been able to find any photos online which might help to identify your particular place.
The strange bay at the far end should be fairly easy to spot if any external shots of the right building were found.0 -
I don't know why the photo did not load earlier. Anyway, it's in now
. It looks smaller in the pic, but actually, it also looks smaller in situ. I will get some scale pictures somewhere along the week.
Please note the stylish colour behind the thing, that took coats and coats of paint.. I think it shows I am cold that I am choosing such a warm paint colour. In the flesh I am really please with the colour (chosen to balance the gruesome red....I don't do red much). Its got a lovely warm but nuetral feel. It's a bit american, in the way they often handle the darker neutrals more confidently than we do.
But most importantly, mud should not show up too badly0 -
Thanks for that, lir. It is a big one!
I've also joined the wood pellet thread over on another channel of MSE, as I found that very useful & interesting.
Meanwhile we've been to another stove & heating place today, where again, the advice seemed sound, non-pushy and rooted in a good understanding of the products. We learned what I'd heard elsewhere, that Grant are entering the pellet boiler market, which is good news, since they're British and have a good track record. Just about squeeze in as a Westcountry company too. These folk will have one of their boilers up & running in the New Year.
We're already sold on Woodwarm woodburners, which are made in Cullompton. People around here rave about them.
Isn't that colour 'Warm Plaster' from Furrow and Bull? :rotfl:0 -
Grant do them already, Dave unless you're speaking of a different sort.0
