Dave - Have you planted (or got) any ash trees?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-20279644

Yes, we have some useful sized ash in the roadside hedge, and a bloody great thing near Mr Dog, so we'll have some fun if that has to come down!

When Pete does tree work, the cost is offset by the fuel we gain. For the big tree we'd be looking at a couple or three blokes, so more £££, but they'd just cut it up quicker. None of it will leave the site anyway. :D

However, we're just about to create a new coppice area. It won't be larger than, say, 50 trees, but half of those were to be ash. :( Not sure what to go for now, apart from cherry.
It was never meant as a serious source of wood, so I guess we'll have a good time choosing stuff we like, rather than worry too much about its burning qualities. :)

The nice thing about reading the posts these days is that they actually make some sense to me. Like practical, real world sense, rather than daydream fantasies. Thanks, folks ;)

We've been out tonight on a rare, post-7pm adult night out. Feeling quite chuffed about that.

    Good morning all!

Sun shining now but it was dark and minus 1 C when I went out at 6am for a boot rummage.

Not sure whether this govt could have stopped ash dieback fungus spores from blowing cross Channel but did they have to do the equivalent of a chickenpox party by allowing imports of diseased stock? If the effect is similar in time scale to Dutch Elm disease then ash wood for burning will be in plentiful supply for a few years, then prices will rocket :(
  • I dont know if i got ash on my land:cool::cool: will better have a read up on them and see if I got any, either that ask our tree guy did he notice any on our land when he done some work on some trees for us...

Feeling like poo this morning... I have had this lingering cold, but it isnt a cold, its like a start of a cold...but it doesnt turn into a full blown cold...Plus I have been really feeling cold...:rotfl:This morning, it feels as though the its turning into a full blown cold, but it done this a few weeks ago, but it didnt go any further...

Think I better just throw myself on the scrap heap now:rotfl:

especially that the supermarket is opening on the 26th of this month:o:o:o...and no surplus money to get the ranch done.. If it wasnt for the boys hubby and I would have no problems livng there, but the boys will not even consider living there, or in the caravan until its done:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I've just bought a Spear & Jackson vintage bill hook on the Bay for a tenner.:D Old ones tend to be made better, but Morris of Dunsford still make good ones, as do independent blacksmiths... at a price.

Next, I need a machete, but that will have to be new.

I wonder if all species of ash will be affected. With Dutch elm, there are some species that are resistant, such as Wych Elm. We have one of those on our neighbour's land and possibly another down at the stream. As you know, all our normal elm has to be kept at hedge height.

Off to the Remembrance service soon. We were given free tickets to the dinner afterwards, so it seems politic to attend.;) As we only turn up at church on the very odd occasion, it will look like we're only there for the free nosh....:o:o:o ..but if we don't go, we might offend those who gave us the tickets. Can't win, and if the truth be told, we'd rather be here, enjoying the nice day and having sandwiches for lunch! :rotfl:

I was going to let this pass but can't, sorry.
Sorry, too, if this offends but......
It's not so :rotfl: for the families of the 52 who have died since last Remembrance Day, Dave. Some of whom may read MSE.

There's 2 sides to every story.
The headline of the MOS this morning (as seen online) wasn't even 'news'. It was about one of their columnists who has a new book out about her exploits living the country life
Personally, I can think of other things which merit front page space on a national daily but.........
The other side of the story is at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/countryside/6061835/Why-Liz-Jones-is-wrong-about-Exmoor.html

For the dreamers still dreaming of the country life, the 2 stories may be of interest ....... or, at least, amusement.
The Do's & Don'ts are pretty much spot on.

Well w took the new pup out to the haybarn this morning and he seems to have some sort of instinct for snuffling.

On the other hand....I think he is a midget. He has really small feet and a small appetite. I'm worried he will remain too tiny to say boo to a rat.

Farm down the road ha builders in. And in the high rain I saw t's running about there. Yuck, yuck. I cannot do enough to keep them away IMO.

Love the picture of her in designer dress and wellies

Re Remembrance, my memory was at fault a week back, when I listed items to finish today, and got a deserved load of no sales :( . A week's work wasted.

DD1 was back from training last night and able to march this morning, as were the twin GDs.

Picked up a vintage puzzle box last week, thought little of it until DW found that it might sell for £100 in the States :j
