Ctc,forgive me poor putting forward the other side of the argument.

One of the few annoyances here is that our road can make a nice loop for young men and their modified cars from grotsville nearby. There is a definite correlation between modified (including art work) and likelihood of coming of the road at the bend. Often these young men have other things going on to (drinking and driving). sometimes a word at any 'silly' behaviour can be enough to limit any really stupid behaviour. Personally, I think when 'kids' get cars they can no longer use the argument of just being kids. Cars can be most dangerous of all to young men who are just being 'kids' particularly if they have friends/ girlfriends with them.

Obviously it's been handled appallingly. :(. I hope the girl got home without incident

I think they can check insurance now, certainly the required elements that let us by car tax on line would be there via dvla.
  • lir i made sure eldest text her to make sure she was home safely.

I know what you mean LIR about youngsters in cars...

We have found out the tyre the garage put on the car is ilegal, and not for road use:mad::mad::mad: so when hubby comes back from taking tortie to the vet, he is getting straight onto trading standards...AND he is taking the car back to the garage;)

As I say if anything becomes of this with the insurance, then we will take it further about the actions they took with the young girl, which informed eldest by text, there was a rape in the area not so long back:eek::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Don't hit the messenger

To take it further about the girl I think you'd have to be her parent/guardian etc.
The argument might be that your son was responsible for her safety at the time & should have made alternative arrangements for her to get home.
You may just be digging a deeper hole.

If the garage sold you an illegal tyre - BTW did they fit it, too? - then they will have responsibility under Trading.

It is quite possible that a sticker could be classed as modification for insurance purposes. In fact, the insurance company would probably jump at the opportunity to call it one as it would mean you would have broken the terms of contract & they won't have to pay out. :(

For what it's worth my advice would be not to aggravate matters but ensure everything is done absolutely correctly. If son's getting 'clever' with PCs got their back up then Mum's adding to it won't help.
They'll have the whole family's card marked & you'll be being stopped every 5 minutes & Heaven help you if any of you have so much as a duff light bulb :rotfl:

I if ally wrestled the new bird feeder up.

I didn't put the water bit on on the basis that it lows out anyway, and we have the lagoon and a plethora of troughs, the dogs' buckets and one day I might even get a bird bath.

Only thing is, I am not going to fill it now, because I just know bird seed will go everywhere till I have it where it's going to be kept long term. They can have some fat balls when I can find them though.

Re fly grazing of horses locally, I note this ASBO .

I've reported horses loose on the busy A roads and horses have been grazed without permission on commons, tennis courts, farmland, sometimes with horses in terrible condition. Makes you wonder what some people will do :(
  • ITSME... no would never shoot the messenger:rotfl:

The girl was 25 so not exactly a kid...took car to the mot garage we use, and the tyre is not illegal.

Its sounds as though the police were trying to freighten him.

He is staying in tonight:eek::eek::eek:, so it has had some sort of effect:T

Anyway.. tortie went to have the op today, picked her up at tea time... shh dont tell hubby but it cost an arm and a leg ( I know that sounds bad now).. but the main thing its all sorted.. got to take her for a post op check on tuesday, and the stitches to be removed in 2 weeks...

They done a blood test, and nothing nasty turned up, but he is anemic sp? which is down to her recent diet, or lack of it... they said she has a lot of muscle wastage ( skinny) .

Cant wait I'm a celeb starts sunday:D how sad am I:p

Speaking of driving, I've done a lot of it today - 270miles to be precise - so I'm cream-crackered!

It was another funeral. :( That makes three funerals and a wedding this year. Sounds almost familiar.....

The recent funerals we've attended have been for elderly people, but today's was for someone the same age as DW, so emotions were running high. The place was packed, with only standing room for most of the family, so it was plain that the lady concerned was well known and liked in her community. :A

Unfortunately, a couple of family members couldn't quite hold it together and there was a rather embarrassing verbal afterwards, thankfully not witnessed by many.:o:o At least no one hit anyone else.....well, while we were around! There was a 'gathering' to follow in a local hostelry.

We just made polite noises, then left to fulfill a long standing prior engagement elsewhere, which involved giving someone, who's 21 today, a huge Victoria sponge and a big bag of chillies.:rotfl:

That was a nicer way to end the day, especially as I haven't found any way of enjoying the Lemon Drop Ajis that I grow. They're way too hot for my palate!

We now have, courtesy of our bird table, knowledge of the most lush, handsome squirrel I have ever seen. And OH now has an air rifle with a telescopic scope to add to his stock of "tools"

The police can check who your car is insured with and a sticker (unbelievably) can be classed as a modification, it depends on your insurance company.

Much as it hurts me to say so, as I was involved in modding cars for many years, it's best to tell the insurance company about everything, or they will try to wriggle out of paying out, if the worst happens.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

does that mean if a car/van is sign written its a modification????
ive never been asked or know anything re that............
also what is determined a modification then if you had stripes like the minis/cv's etc.
if so there would have to be a statute to determine exactly what sort/size of sticker this would have to be !
