Sorry, too, if this offends but......
It's not so :rotfl: for the families of the 52 who have died since last Remembrance Day, Dave. Some of whom may read MSE.
No offence taken. It was a badly-worded post, done in haste.:o
We aren'tvery regular church-goers; definitely random in fact, but I thought it was obvious that our dilemma concerned whether we'd stay to eat, drink and be merry after the service. But there's context...
Bearing in mind the 3 family funerals we've attended in the last 6 months, including the one on Friday, DW would have preferred to give today's service a miss. She did a fair bit of crying during and after church, which might have been beneficial, but regardless, it did us both much good to be among friends. Yes, sandwiches would have been second best.
And we solved our dilemma with a good old British compromise, but I don't need to go into that here.

I'm looking at the Martindale Golok or the British Army one, both under £20, but I have no idea really at this point. I think they'll be useful keeping the stuff I've already cut back. like blackthorn, under yearly control:

Then there's this charmingly named site with some cheaper stuff:

But I'm sure I saw another site where they had videos of the tools in use.
Will post if I find it.0 -

Personally, I can think of other things which merit front page space on a national daily but.........
I read her book the Exmoor Files and quite enjoyed it - though I did think there might have been rather a lot of poetic licence taken in the writing of it!
She's clearly not the most practical or pragmatic of people - after all how many people live in a farm on exmoor while running the fashion desk at the Daily Mail and being a public laughing stock!? Still She's probably laughing all the way to the bank mind you!0 -

My thoughts entirely. Any copy is good copy.
Glad she didn't prosper on the property, though.
My head's reeling after attempting to meet a deadline with the architect today....and failing. We thought we had this place sussed, but a morning of questioning the plans threw up more queries than it answered, so we cancelled. No point in messing the guy around.
Sooo......instead, we took a trip out to another stove and heating place., having decided that if we visit all those within 30 miles or so, we might click with one of them.
I think we may have clicked, but I suppose we'll only know for sure when we've visited/re-visited a couple more. The lady we saw today was speaking our language, and so was a lady customer whom we quizzed on her Woodwarm stove (made in Devon!:D)
Anyway, we're now thinking wood pellets might be an option after all, so I'll be keen to hear of lir's experiences. The ones we're considering look pretty solid, simple and small; certainly not as intimidating as the monster we viewed back in the late summer.:)0 -
Davenave, I have had delays with mine going in, but it's on site.
You have to remember, mine has to meet requirements for a big house eventually, and it IS a monster.. When they were telling me dimensions I was obviously daydreaming because I said.....'what are we talking, the size of an old 60s oil boiler? '. Well, he is older than me but obviously has never seen a sixties oil burner. This is the size of two of them, stacked. Then there is the hopper. Huge, huge.
Work starts on it tomorrow. I will get pics for you and then, if it works by the end of the week, update on that too.0 -
The pellet boilers we saw were no larger than a modern oil boiler. The main difference was that one had a viewing window because it was intended to go in a living room and look like a 'cosy' fire.......However, the external design was pretty hideous, so I wouldn't have wanted it in my living room!
Like most things, the designers will eventually be brought in, but for now, it looks like the engineers are in full control. I remember a similar situation, when it was impossible to get a good-looking, efficient, coal-effect gas fire, then suddenly, someone did it.
I know yours will be much larger, but your experience will, I'm sure, be invaluable.0 -
a joke for you.....
Yesterday I was at my local Checkers store buying a large bag of Epol
dog food for my loyal pet and was in the checkout queue when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
What did she think I had an elephant? So, since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I
was starting the Epol Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't,
because I ended up in hospital last time, but I'd lost 20 kilos before
I woke up in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my
orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way
that it works is to load your pockets with Epol nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally
complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to
mention here that practically everyone in queue was now enthralled
with my story.)
Horrified, she asked me if I ended up in intensive care because the
dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off the pavement to
sniff a Bull Terrier's **** and a car hit me.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.
I'm now banned from Checkers.
Better watch what you ask retired people.
They have all the time in the world to think of daft things to say.
Forward this (especially) to all your retired friends...... it will be
their laugh for the day.0 -
On a lighter note, I met a lady yesterday who's organising a plant sale in aid of the local church next year. That's given me an excuse to propagate again!
DW put a ban on me propagating stuff, but she can't object to this, because it's all going off the premises before the main watering/weeding season. :A
Anyway, she's had to admit that the 50 hawthorns and 12 laurels I grew from seed recently will come in handy, not to mention the few dozen cotoneasters which are already backing- up the neighbour's faltering leylandii.:) I also had an accidental explosion of citisus, ( I know, sounds painful, but my waterworks are fine!) which have turned out to be one of the few things that will colonise our hostile, dry hedge bank and suppress weeds. It's all good.
But now I can do 'proper' flowers, although not many will be performing at the time this is scheduled to take place. Why do they appoint people who don't know the &rse end of a daffodil from a cabbage to organise these things?0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:It's already on its way!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If I send this to a certain person in the village, I can guarantee it will be everywhere inside a 3 mile radius by tomorrow tea time, and that's not using email!0
