Dave, how many apple trees do you have & what variety are they?? I'd love to have a mini orchard in future ~ apples & plums I think.
We have about 45 apple pear and plum trees. No pears this year and no plums either. Only names on 4 trees, though we can guess at a few.0 -

everyone must have been tucked up in bed last night:rotfl:
free listing weekend again this weekend, and I had an email saying there is free listing for business sellers too.. Think it was between 22 - 26th october...
ordered metal ear tags for pigs yesturday...and the applicator thing:eek:
Itsme.... there is allready a metal year tag in their ear... I am sure the abotoir said we have to remove it, and put our one in... do you know how to get them out.. they are sooooooooooooo tight on the ear, you cant get them off:mad:
I am going to phone them today to see if we can keep it on, and put ours in as well. Cant the tag be on any ear, or has it got to be on a certain side?
People that said they would have half a pig, are now only asking for tenderloin or chops:mad:
Looks like we will be eating pork every day:rotfl:
Way back when we didn't have to tag ours but then outs weren't for meat. Tagging seemed to start with the FMD outbreak.
Some of the goats were tagged when we got them & we just left those tags in. In fact, I'm sure that, back then at least, it was an offence to remove a tag.
You may be better using tattoos if applicable to your situation.

And did the earth move for our Devon dwellers last night?
Not up here.
We did have an earthquake going back a few years now. A very weird sensation but couldn't possibly have been mistaken for anything else.
It was in the early hours of the morning. It started as a low rumble which grew closer - imagine living over a tube line with a train approaching - the wardrobe shook like merry hell (If you remember it is not a small wardrobe being solid pine & about 8ft tall & 9ft wide) & then the rumble went off into the distance.
I was out the back in my dressing gown with a torch checking that the hills were still there & hadn't disppeared into the sea. I truly wouldn't have been surprised to get up & find we had gained a sea view :rotfl:
The funniest thing was that there was a Greek guy staying in one of the cottages. He spent the rest of the night sitting on the front doorstep of his cottage. "You're meant to be used to these things", I said. "That's why I'm sitting here", said he
Some people managed to sleep right though it including DH & about half the visitors. Don't ask me how.0 -

Wow, I didn't know you had so many, You need orchard pigs to send of with ctc's:D
I really need to get on to apples and the quince. The holes are still sitting there empty.
Now, I doubt any one remembers but when the holes were dug I had a panic because they filled with water. All though the summer I have kept an eye on them, and I am now content that the water level is not abnormal, but the holes are simply too deep. Other fruit trees (coue of apples, plums) have done well, in line with these, and the holes that have been filled the fruit trees have all coped fine, (including one apple on the baby bramley) so I feel happier to continue and plant trees after some observation. I think I only have half a dozen empty holes and one needs a quince in it.0 -
Grrrrrre.
I forgot there was a shrub auction at the cattle market today. Really cross with myself. I was so excited.
Meanwhile, I found two dogwoods I had forgotten about in the nursery bed (or elder patch as it should now be called) and I was planning on buying some dog wood for the borders I hope to be digging this winter.
I am also considering a smoke bush. I was thinking of variety grace but today saw one called flame or fire or something and that was nicer to my eyes than the very common dark royal purple. Pink flowers though, would spoil my white border. (I am trying to make a really good autumn colour corner at the back of the border so that when at this time of year the late summer /early tidy up has happened there is a blaze of colour to replace the serene earlier planting. )0 -
'Grace' needs a lot of space and isn't the easiest to keep under control.
I know we could do with piggies to eat some of the apples, but the orchard was never set up right for it. ATM one of our apple trees is actually standing in water. I went over with a barrow this morning to fetch some of the red, mushy apples for the chickens, as they enjoy those, and we don't!
Still feeling under the weather with some bug or other, but it's so nice & still out there, I can't mope indoors. We are filling-in the ventilated side of the polytunnel today with poly sheeting, so pretty easy stuff.0 -
Aha, so decision made for the fire or flame one or whatever. (horses love smoke bush, no idea how good it is for them , but they are usually assaulted if they can be reached so grace might be a better choice near horses!)0

Hahahahahaha
I just found why I am getting so few eggs.....
The automatic feeders outside, where I haven't been for ages,
Are overflowing with eggs.
Amazing that the feral cats, foxes and rats have not found them!0 -
Wow Dave, I didn't expect you to say 45 trees!! I have orchard envy!! :rotfl:
Hope you don't mind me [STRIKE]interfering[/STRIKE] saying, but you haven't been feeling great for a while (long-time lurker, not stalker) hope you feel better soon.
lir, I would love a couple of Bramleys, they're on my wishlist, as well as a couple of Victoria plums (trees that is).
alfie, could you use super-glue to stick your union jacks on the portaloos?? Be really careful if you use it though, that stuff is notorious for sticking doors tight shut if you accidently spill it!!'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
HAHAHAHA like your style pink poppy, super glue is so usefull;)
Itsme.. It felt like were were having earthquakes here with the diggers and machinery the house used to shake..
Dont think you need piggies in your orchard Davesnave.... well not mine anyway, as they dont like apples:rotfl:
LIR......:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: glad you found where the eggs wereWork to live= not live to work0
