Ooooh belated happy birthday Alfie! *mega hugs* I hope next year's is better!:bdaycake::grouphug:"...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0

Ooops! .....Didn't see it was your birthday yesterday, but that's 'cos it was a nice evening and I knew this carp weather was heading in.....so as Mr Dog's dogs had been kicking off all afternoon, I headed up his way and did lots of silencerless brushcutting, to make sure he couldn't sit outside in peace.:rotfl:
Didn't come in till dark, ate, and then zzzzzzzz.
Anyway, belated HB0 -
Alfie, don't forget the House Buying & Renting Forum here if you need 'em. They're very good.
I heard last week that the folk down in the barn conversions (about 15 properties) have had so many arguments trying to run themselves, they've given up and appointed an agent. :rotfl:
Sounds good to me. If they only manage to field the numerous complaints from the pair I call Mr & Mrs Tw*t, it'll be a worthwhile service. They are the sort who choose to live in the country and then moan about tractors with smelly manure spreaders passing their gate. (I kid you not!) People seem scared of them, but I can't see why, as they are really very funny, despite their sneaky vindictiveness. They were the ones who complained when we started selling produce. Anyway, Mr T can't see me, though I still wave cheerfully from behind my cloak of invisibility. :wave:0 -
complaining that you were selling your produce:eek::eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
why didnt they like it, and what grounds did they complain?
I HATE arsh@les like that, think we have one or two up the new place.... so we will what poo starts hitting the fan in just over a week when the pigs arrive....
S@d all they can do ( I think) as it was a commerical premises in the past, and is a registered smallholding now ( which I think makes it also a commercial smallholding)
Either that, or I will make it into a retreat for 'ageing bikers':D
WHEN OR WHEN will this rain stop.... I just want to cry now....
but on the plus side... the mini's Insurance company are sending me a replacement hired caravan for the next two weekends:T which is being delivered tomorrow..... for the price they got to hire it for,( and the agent finding fee) its not far off £800 per week:eek: Surely it would be in their interest to get this all done and dusted asap.... their damage assessor is coming out today to look at the caravan. even though they can see from the pics its carpoot...
Alfie.... If you want a good natter, I can pm you my number....I know you can vent off on here as much as you like, we are here to listen and vent off with you, but sometimes its hard to write down what is really going on, and how you feel...
LIR how are you feeling?Work to live= not live to work0 -
Lir is feeling un believably well this morning thanks ctc.
I even woke up at the 'right' time before my alarm, for the first time in ages. I am getting used to these pills, though not the constant peeing (no joke, six times in one hour yesterday). Its my lumbar puncture next week. I have another consultant to see (not sure when, referral has not come back yet) but hopefully within October. Then....dunno what. You just get left to manage a situation as best you can IME.
I feel really dreadful that this summer has been such a right off for us, but looking at the weather not sure how much progress we might have made anyway?? This winter i really want to get the north garden laid out, i doubt we will afford the brick path and terrace, but might be able to run to gravel for the medium term, but getting some proper borders in, it will be the herb garden mainly, will be a huge relief.
Besides mint, any herbs that might do ok on the shadier side? I am quite happy to have a whole border of different mints mind you....:). I could do with a more structural edging plant that will cope with some shade, it will be lavender opposite.
Building work seems to be hitting mpore and more stumbling blocks, though i think thats normal at this sort of stage. The new fireplace looks massive. A bit dominationg tbh, and of course, no one is entirely sure it will draw, as people do not regularly build them now. It has a big, big concrete flue, and we need to find a masive bit of stone (maybe slate) for the hearth. Its also hard trying to judge things with no floor level in the room (floors will bring it up almost a foot, so the fireplace might look titchy after that! )
All the outside walls that came down are back up, and the front sectionhas been retiled, keeping the wonky bits. Any one driving past would struggle to see we have done anything accept remove the huge buttresses. It looks a bit clean, but still old, and i know it will weather in quickly. i am really pleased with it. I am nervous about interior plastering, which i do not want to be hard, but with soft, deep rounded edges, like in the rest of the old house. I have made LOTS of compromises...e.g. We did not go for underfloor heating in the end (because apparnently it would be a waste of money in such a big space, and then in the study a rad is easier to hide, eventually i will hide it in cabinetry.
Alfie, depending how things go with the letting agent lets get a new date in for you getting your oil tank, this strong lot of builder builders are only here for another ten days they think, before the other trades take over, and these guys will move it for us.0 -

Because they thought customers would have to pass over about 4 metres of the shared drive, although that bit is actually 100 metres from where they live.
What they didn't know is that the deeds of our property give us the right to use the drive "at all times and for all purposes" which is about as comprehensive as it's possible to get.
Anyway, I just sent them the relevant para from the deeds + a translation, because they aren't the brightest buttons in the box.
Good news about the caravan.
When we were rear-ended in 2009 by the nice texting teen in Sennybridge, we had a brand new Peugeot 308 for over 6 weeks. Silly girl omitted to tell her insurers (also Tesco) about the accident, thinking we'd just decided to forget about it.(!:rotfl:)
Once she did, they got onto it pronto, because the cost must've really been stacking-up. We were very busy at the time and put over 3.5k miles on the 'new' car.0 -
Omg, this rain is never going to stop is it? We are never going to get the lagoon emptied either
. I could weep, weep, weep.

It might, as it's OK here and the wind is going your way.....:)
OTOH, we are due another cloudburst around 4pm...:(
But after that, it's an 'improving picture.'
Managed to have two almost simultaneous deliveries of logs, when Pete turned up unexpectedly with a load last night. Decided to stack them this morning as he was threatening to come back with more. Unfinished, but I can't walk about like Quasimodo any longer!
Another sick hen. :mad:This time it's Mrs Chatty, but we have no idea what's wrong. She stopped laying a while back, but she's been fine until today & we thought it was just the moult. Comb's red, no lice or stuff like that, and recent worming with Flub, so I'm mystified. In sick bay with Tylan, and she's been drinking it fine. Yesterday, she was chasing me as I went round with the mower....I dunno!0 -
Davesnave, just a thought, ( prob the wrong one:D) but do you think it might have something to do with all the rain we have had this year? damp, etc?
edit.... also maybe body clocks a bit like plants this year, dont know whether they are coming or goingWork to live= not live to work0 -
My hens are layingnok now, but they were slow to warm up this year certainly.
