That stuff in the Mail was covered by some of the big Internet news sites days ago, so it's hardly being kept quiet. However, compared with a hurricane or a shooting spree it gets less interest, even though it will have more impact on people globally.

There often seems to be little connection between what people find important in their lives and what the news media dish up. Despite that, I noticed in the comments section of whatever site I was using, that there were hardly any "greedy farmers" comments, which certainly seems to suggest a shift in public opinion.

Quite a few people were wanted to blame speculators in commodity markets.

Me, I blame all of us, though not in equal amounts. Can't help wondering if the last few years of unpredictable weather are just the start....

Having thoroughly depressed everyone, I'll just add that it's quite nice here too this morning. :)

It was a beautiful autumn morning earlier, its greying over now.

While we live where so much food is thrown away i am not exactly 'fearful' but i have always felt it is too dangerous to be so reliant on inports for some of our serious supplies. Not that imports are necessarily wrong (and i like osme foods we could not grow here economically) but that we should be able to be self provident in harder times.

    But, whi
E we keep growing as a country this gets harder and harder to do 'ethically'.

nope you havent depressed me Davesnave, I am allready depressed and stressed anyway:o:D

So being totally realistic, It might be worth me looking at polytunnels more closely then?

I have seen some poly tunnels which the poles look no larger than a plastic gazebo, and look as though they will only last 2 minutes,

I have also seen ones with thick sterdy 'scaffolding type poles' which look far better.

Where did you buy yours from Dave?

I think you could be right with our unpredictable summer/weather in the future... as over the last few years, it just seems like constant rain....with the odd few nice days....

Sorry to hear about your Hen, totally agree with you, it would have been nice for her to just linger on for a few more days...

The received wisdom at Defra was that our food security was best served by importing our shortfall of production. I'm happy with the idea that having trading links for importing food is a good idea, but disagree strongly that we should run a continuing production shortfall. At present we are a net food burden on other countries which seems morally wrong. We can afford this for the time being but is it right that we continue to grow our population while we havent got the land to support the food they need?

Interesting. Have you had a safety check on your heating system and electrics in all your time as a tenant there?

I think with their rights come responsibilities. You might spend some time researching.

i have spent 3 weeks researching and hes a pompous prat that does not know the regs !!

i had the boiler serviced this year.
the repairs promised 4 years ago, the 3 dodgy dead/dying trees, the rubbish cess pit system, the rotten window frame, the slipping tiles ?????? apparently im lucky the rent is only going up by £70 a month as they could get a lot more for it...

told him he didnt give the correct notice as my lease from pre said can only be reviewed every 2 yrs on the anniversary of lease start ...may 1st. he said he can do what he wants and he can always backdate it..... guess my answer to that..
told him i wanted to run it by the rent assesment people and he said it had NOTHING to do with them ???? he cannot see that he has contravened ALL the current regs .... i am  to say the least.

i have a list now of discrepancies ... but just know they will just give me notice :(
best of luck to em cos i will put this place back exactly as it was when i got it..... A DUMP....:D

    RANT OVER....what a birthday !
  • ooooo NOOOOO Alfiekins:o what a total twonk...

cant you write a letter to your actual landlord saying about your grievence you have with the new agent, and you feel threatened and/or intimadated?

Will you manage ok if they put the rent up?

Can I come round and duff him up:D

I think this is the time you want EVERYTHING in writing/email, no talking or phone conversations....

I would also take proper advice, about your lease, first of all is there a clause that they can get you out even over something trivial? as I should imagine the lease is practically all on the landlord's side.

also is the firm/agent on a fix or a %age fee? if he is on a %age is he treating the other tenants the same, and putting their rents up whenever he feels like it?

Also tell them they can only come round with an appointment, otherwise it will be invasion of privicy or something like that..

Sorry about your son and his gf, it sounds as though you are having a right poo time,

I think everyone on here is having a naff time this year...
