I would have thought from now on in, it would be toys that would sell well, good quality and makes... so maybe a nose around bootsales might be good, didnt you sell some little tykes toys before?
WIMPS.....:rotfl::rotfl: what is wrong with having 3 segments and an 8ft base of a heavy as !!!!! bookcase taking up half your lounge ?? wheres the fun in having floor space to be able to walk freely from sofa to answer telephone without resembling a mountain goat in the process..?? why would you want to walk freely up your hall to reach the bathroom without stubbing toe/cracking a shin on a itinerant piece of furniture awaiting a new owner ???;)0 -

So that's a dongle........
Good with the getting stuff back in the auction CTC that you don't want.
I used to fill a van with boxes of stuff & shove em in sale room during car boot season. It all adds up.
Alfie - Hope your book case sells - it's lovely. I love that retro Jacobean 30s dark wood stuff - I think that's what it is.
? I'm fed up wit emails wanting me to relist a bag & the woman then doesn't buy it - she's done it twice to me. I'll redo it tomorra free.
Rummer - It's been heavy pours down here too.0 -

I slogged my guts out to get out of debt and save... THEN i borrowed and bought a smallholding and need to save to sort things out, and start living the lifestyle I have dreamed of.....so yep up to my eyeballs in debt again...... But It is the gamble I am prepared to take for my dream:D
I listen to the voices of experienceI'm lucky, we have no mortgage, so it would just be day to day costs, council tax and other bills which we would need money for.
If we found a place that needed some work doing to it my youngest son and DH would be able to cope with most things now, after renovating this lovely Victorian EOT we're in. I'm very proud of what they've achieved!
However, at the moment the holdings I like are just out of reach, with asking prices about 50k above what we'd be able to afford. Maybe I should wait and keep an eye on them while I'm paying off my CC, and see if they're still on the market by the time I'm clear (but I HATE waiting waaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!) :rotfl:
BTW calling me Alex will do, Alexelisey is a combination of my name, and my pedigree cat's name (the one who died of cancer in March) and it's too long really, but the people who run the site won't let me change it."...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -
Ok Alex, we will call you Alex:D
I could never in a million year afford to buy my dream home..But like Davesnave and a few others mentioned on here throughout the threads... its all about compramise...
As you know I was in reality at the botton price scale when it came to what i could afford...so thats why the places i was looking at and mentioning on here were a bit irractic to say the least..:rotfl: going from just land, a delapidated old cottage ( which the owner must have had permission to reinstate, as they are now rebuilding it...) land with a huge barn in the national park etc...I was trying to get away from my 'ideal dream home' and were looking at options....
Even though we have had our 'ranch' since April, and after the initial hacking off etc of some of the walls and realising things wernt going to be as straight forward as we thought htey might have been.... We have stepped back and taken a deep breath, reluctantly had to take up my parents offer of them selling hteir house to do the repairs and the extention of an annex for them..
The Plans were submitted last week...
Even though I love my mother and step-father to bits... I totally like my space, and I hate them knowing my business, and I know they will be nosing at everything we do, and when people come to see us, they will be out seeing who they are... etc...
basically they still make me feel I am the stupid little girl that doesnt know whats best... ( which they told me often enough when i was younger:o).
soooooooooooo unless we win the lottery rather quickly, then this is going to have to be my major compramise....
They have been on about buying a smallholding for us all to live in for a few years, but I have said no, as I know I didnt want it, Now it looks as though they have had what they wanted, and I have no other choice really.
Well I do..... But it would be a bit messy I supose...
Walk away from this house with the mortgage...hand keys in etc... and hubby go bankrupt ( we are currently paying £520 mortgage house is in his name only house is worth nowhere near what we owe on it) move into 'ranch' and do it it up while living in it/caravan but I know our 16 and 17 year old would moan to hell and back.... but it is only a last resort option.
Since a week after we won the place at auction things just started going down hill, lost a major contract at work... Major money spent on one of the vans, now the van and caravan being written off, lost a customer, Vintage fair organiser that we dont practically of our vintage fairs with ( as he organised the locaish ones) went awol, so no fairs unless we travel a few hours to get to them, to name but a few things
sorry But I just went with the flow and had to talk about it... please dont do any quotes on my post, as I wil prob delete it later.....
AND..... to top it all, hubby has taken our one of our cockerals to a mates house to show hime how to dispatch and clean him etc:eek:, The cokeral is about 3 years old, ( the one that spurred me a while back) hubby wants me to roast him:eek: wouldnt he be a bit old and tough for that?Work to live= not live to work0 -

Don't apologise, it's pretty hard to sum up something as complex as that in anything much shorter.
I could write a similarly long post, but not up to it at the moment.
In our case, the compromise I made has paid-off in the short term, but it's what we do from here that will determine how comfortable an old age we have.
The difficulty is in being unable to predict the most important thing with owning any smallholding, which is your health. You can muddle along one way or another if you're fit, but just a couple of days feeling under the weather has made me more aware that this place could be a real liability without the good health I normally enjoy. And to be blunt, while DW is healthier than I've known her for years, there's no telling if that will last.
Like you, I have an alternative plan, but DW isn't up for it. It might not involve acres of land, though we'd always have enough space for plants & chooks.
I just hope that one day I'm not saying to her, "Told you what we should have done!"0 -
CTC, you've bitten the bullet, that takes character, well done you! And I think the cockerel will need a long, slow simmer!
Dave, its a cruel irony that by the time some of us get to live the dream, we are reaching the stage of life where it can get difficult to cope . And there often isnt the family support available to cope with workload during accidents and illnesses.
On the road at 5am to the boot and in a cold spot the car was registering 9C outside, definite chill in the air and autumn round the corner. Let's hope for a good Sept/Oct before the gales start. Saw a couple of MSE'rs at the boot, they'd had a fox take several of their chooks.:(0 -
CTC - If you don't want to share your life with your parents or anyone for that matter - DON'T, as it'll all end in tears. If you're like me you wouldn't be able to bite yer tongue for ever, if at all.
Well must get some photies took & get stuff listed as I'm up to my elbows in junk/ treasure in the caravan.
Fabulous day here & wee chicks are penned out doors enjoying the warmth of the sun.0
