That's not what I was expecting from a 'dating quiz!';) No ideas there. I have a few nice Eastern ornaments, but I've no idea if they are Chinese or Japanese. My guess is Chinese, because the Japanese were not popular in the late 40s,which is when they were purchased.

We've completed, but it was all an anticlimax, because our solicitor just left a "the cheque's in the post" message on the answerphone. Big trip out today to get wedding stuff/normal food etc, as no trip from here should be wasted.

No, we don't have a huge bracken problem. Most of the land around here on the tops is tame, so we don't even see soft rush without going a few miles and another 150' higher.

In Morrisons I heard that their M Fest at Leeds has been cancelled due to the extreme forecast. I doubt if many from Tiverton would have been going though! :cool:We didn't get rain till we reached Glastonbury on the return trip today. Even now, it's just steady and there's no huge loss of visibility, though Dartmoor's disappeared....:(

Dave, never an anticlimax when a completion successfully happens. Its a reason to celebrate!

Well, I mentioned a week or so back about the unwelcome pigeons nesting in the wisteria about 2' from the patio doors. Last week DW saw a pigeon fly out with feathers flying and then saw a magpie. Dont know whether there were eggs or chicks there at the time but they are gone and nest now abandoned. Nature's red in tooth and claw...and beak.

Productive day, got a lot done before the rain started again, glad I'm not on low ground.

Auction goers and curio finders and google warriers...please can you keep an eye out for me for an odd thing?

I have some Lights that need rewiring. I was persuaded by something alcie showed me to turn them into candle lit things, but have agreed now to consider the wiring alternative....(arcjitect almost had kittens when i said candle lit) and so i am looking for the plastic (or any material) candle tubes for lights in a beeswax candle finish instead of the normal white....

You never know who might come across something like that!

Maybe you could "age" the tubes - tea, coffee - that sort of thing.
We had sconces (both candle bulb & real candle) made. To get round the plastic candle drips we had brass tubing instead.

I can't find anything like it, rhiw, but I think the design may be Japanese.
It seems to show shino pine trees & what may be (can't quite see so may be completely wrong) a crane centre right toward bottom?

The style looks a bit Art Nouveau (which would fit the Japanese theme) or Edwardian but that's just my impression.

We have ages ones on them now and not my cuppa tea. I had thought or wrapping them in sheet candle wax, but guess it would cause problems at least aethetically when light was on and wax heated up and melted:eek::eek:

Been following the Wakestock story as we drive past the site on way to our caravan. Here's what the Abersoch website people had to say on Twitter about the flooding story on ITV:

    abersoch.co.uk ‏@abersochdotco
ITV Wales news have tonight apparently shown an old photo of Glastonbury - claiming it to be from Wakestock today & said it...

    abersoch.co.uk ‏@abersochdotco
....was cancelled. Very poor journalism. Apparently organisers received an apology. Wakestock is going ahead. It is wet, but not cancelled!

Rhiwy I think your cabinet is 1930s, and I would agree with IMH that it's Japanese.

I think the cabinet is 1920's made in Europe, in the Japanese style.

No, real wax wouldn't be the best idea. It's also hellish to keep clean &, as with real candles, discolours with age. It would soon look really cruddy.

Found these. More the sort of thing you want?

We used brass sleeves like these with black wrought iron sconces. The real candle ones are just the black iron.
