Hmm, NOW the drive belt on the lawn mower has gone, lol.
Any one else have an unual amount of wild parsnip this year? Just struck me as unusual this morning. Of course, i am still getting to grips with normal for here, but there is a lot more than in the two previous summers.0 -

Wild parsnip isn't one of the things there's normally much of around here - just the odd few. I've not noticed any particular increase. Doesn't it thrive on frosts? Or have I dreamt that?:rotfl:
On my travels yesterday I did note there was a small area of the giant stuff (&, boy, was it huge) along the coast road about 10 miles from home.
Just one large clump.
Strange how these things just turn up somewhere. I can't recall ever seeing it there before.0 -
I fork out thistles & ragwort each year & even do the roadside, but no one else bothers really. I do notice a big difference in the amount of ragwort & thistles - really a lot less, but I have docks that are really encroaching so they'll be sprayed when it's a suitable day.
The Hebredians do like to eat them & seem to control them a bit, but I do have bad patches outwith their grazing area.
Today we have the new Crofting Commissioners coming out so that'll be a frosty afternoon down at the local hotel - wasting time no doubt as they will 'take it on board' but be as ineffecient as ever.
A good day here....again. We seem to have had the best weather in the whole of this island of ours.0 -
Its an ill wind.
The veg patches arent worth protecting this year so the chooks are free ranging, jumping up to get the raspberries and scaring themselves and the blackbirds witless in the process.
Ants have decided to nest in the tom buckets. Every time I water there's a mass exodus . Still none ripe though
Bought a daft lot at auction, damaged pieces mainly, including a coromandel writing slope that some thug had started to butcher. Lovely, lovely wood. And what do I do with a 6' Victorian wrought iron oil lamp stand? Answers on a postcard .....:D
Next door are having an ash tree crown reduced, so hoping for a few cu metres of free chippings for paths and beds later0 -
Auction goers and curio finders and google warriers...please can you keep an eye out for me for an odd thing?
I have some Lights that need rewiring. I was persuaded by something alcie showed me to turn them into candle lit things, but have agreed now to consider the wiring alternative....(arcjitect almost had kittens when i said candle lit) and so i am looking for the plastic (or any material) candle tubes for lights in a beeswax candle finish instead of the normal white....
You never know who might come across something like that!0 -

Got soaked coming to work and the trains have ben up the creek (sorry) all day but now seem sorted. Loads of flood warnings here so have fingers crossed for people. Could get difficult when all this water gets to the lowlands. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
