now we are taking him to the nearest new vets....
We wanted as little stress for him as poss.... he hated being in the car....
one of cour close friends, ( well my 'adopted' son so to speak..lol..) who has known the rocky from the first day we had him, came over and has gone with hubby... I just run into the bathroom, didnt want to see him being carried out to the car...
oooooo god how do we tell the boys.......???
ooooo flip i hate it.... hate it...... he wasnt a dog... he was one of us..... slept on/in the bed, our life revolved around him....
At this moment i feel as though i have lost a child... ( its prob no where near like the feeling)
No more dogs its too much heart ache...Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC I am so sorry to hear about Rocky, (((hugs)))Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
-
Oh CTC (hug). This may not be his time.
Each of us who has kept any animal for many years dreads "that" day. We all know it's inevitable even if there are some close shaves which put off the timing.
All we can do is try to do our best for them without prolonging suffering &, ultimately, hope they can have a dignified end without too much pain.0 -
Ctc, we do all know the feeling. Its doesn't help that we know, but we do, we know its not 'losing a dog' but losing 'rocky' and he IS family.0

So sorry to read about Rocky. All furry 'indoor' animals are family, so it hurts that they have such a short time compared to us. Even when they are in their 80s or 90s in animal years, they seem young.
When DD2 lost Eric, we wondered how she'd cope, having had him from a kit. In those horrible early teenage years he'd been her ally when friends were fickle, so he was very special. "I'm not having any more ferrets!" was what she said at the time.
Somehow, to everyone's surprise, she did cope. Recently, she announced, "When I'm done with Uni, I think I might get a couple of ferrets again."
It may not come to that, and I hope it won't, but sometimes the best way to deal with losing a beloved animal is to give a home to another. Fingers crossed.0 -
Help!
My cats almost never catch birds, so when i just saw pink whistley with a bird in her mouth i ran to intercept her and tell her off, but she plonked into my hand a live and uninjured duckling.
Ctc i know has lots of duck experience, but i guess this is a duck from the lagoon, so far as i know noone keeps domestics where the cat would roam to.
What do i give it? I wonder if jojo would notice if i slipoed it under her tonight with her lot? They are a but old for her to fall for it.0 -

What a cutie.... it might be a mallard.... chick crumbs, duckings are VERY messy......
its only a few days old if thatWork to live= not live to work0 -
Messy is an understatement for their size. They will throw water & food around with one end & the subsequent mixture of both from the other
I've successfully got hens to rear ducks but Mum does then go totally ape when her baby finally follows the instinct to go into the water. She tears around the edge of the pond squawking like a fox is after her.
However, if the chicks are older & the hen has no eggs under her it probably wouldn't be as easy.
No chance of finding where little Love-A came from? Mother Duck may still take her back which would be the best option.
Yep, looks like a mallard to me, too, CTC. We had some crosses which also threw similar, too.0
