Oh yes indeed.
I have been shunted off the list of the contractor because i am bottom of it. Its really hard to get contractors round here, particularly for hay making, and i have no chance this year. So i have standing grass up to my armpits and i quite simply do not know what to do. You cannot give grass away this year round here. The die back if its left will be bpretty near diasastrous.
Oh what a cow?
How many acres are you talking about? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Desperately? 6 0r eight. The rest is a crop but not such a heavy one, i can cut it to rot. Still, i hate doing that. Its damaging and wasteful both. But i will have no choice. With the heavier crop .....i am !!!!!!ed i think, whatever i do.0 -

In my experience the strong drink only makes one feel even more disadvantaged when you are out in the middle of the night fighting wind, rain & everything that Fate chucks at you when you're having "one of those" days/weeks/moths/years
The laugh is the important thing
That & to know there are people who have been there, done that & survived to live the tale & empathise.

Which cut is it, LIR?
What do you have by way of equipment if anything?
Have you a near neighbour due to cut who you can explain you've been let down to? Maybe they'd help (if they cut their own) or share a job (if they use contractors).0 -

The crucial area is a first cut, hence so long. Seed well in now.
The problem is that the weather has made people who would help unable to, becuase everyone with equipment is flat out using it themselves.
. None of my farming neighbours have balers, or tedders. Everything here is contracted. (We are a big farm country, or overgrazed pony paddocks.) Toppers yes, people have them, but using them themselves, pretty much 24/7

Yes, I think everyone must be having problems getting the hay in this year so I know what you mean about all using their own machinery.
It's not just the cut it's turning & baling........ & all still weather reliant.
I've scythe cut an acre or so before but that's ruddy hard work.
It may be your only choice, though, if there's no machinery free.
It really depends on how desperately you think you''ll need it.
Is rain forecast for days for you or might the neighbours manage to get all theirs in & the contractor or machinery become free for yours?0 -

I don't need it, but i need it gone. I could really have done with selling it though!0 -

Yes. It's a crop gone to waste & money lost.
If you could get it cut late - even if it's been rained on - you may still be able to get rid of it for cattle. I think their digestive systems handle it better than horses (although I've never kept cattle myself. It's what I've been told.)
I can't think of any other suggestions, sorry. Maybe someone else will come up with an idea.0 -
Advertise it as sheep grazing???
What a bummer LIR.0 -
