I've just been watching a rather manic little shrew.
It's zipping to & fro from one of the outbuildings to collect the Montana petals which blew down in the wind.
If it's using them for nesting it's going to start off with lovely fragrant white sheets but end up by waking on a layer of slimey gunk. :)

    hi all.
glad [i think] that rhiwie had time away but alas the weather !!

CTC...wood is quite a commodity to nick....my friend was having a fence with stock wire put up along the front of the 11 acre wood she bought and some bu**ar nicked all the posts that had been put in ,overnight  im surprised the 5 bar gates still there ....
poor fencing man had to start again so if your fencing do it in stages and get the wire on ..it stops posts going .
this was on a nice rural road aproaching a small village ...but no one saw anything ??

we had no rain today but sshhhhh dont tell him upstairs with the buckets...;)
had the farrier today...all ok BUT ruby HAS GOT TO GET HER FEET DONE.. after discussions with him and vet we have decided HW can get headcollar on, stable her, work with her, then as a last resort a week later sedate her lightly in feed, see how she is, if necesary vet will give her a shot [lala land] and farrier will do feet.[have to co-ordinate all bodies to be on stand by] it will be like an sas raid...:o but her feet are important and it must be done. unless HW can get her to lift her feet calmly SOON thats what we will have to do ......bit of a chicken and egg senario :(

i am absolutely kernacked at the mo, my ladder fall has taken its toll:( i taint as yung as oi used to be ......my umpf has umpfed off......

i have 3 more days work...varied.... then hopefully weather dependant, sons parachute jump on saturday....id like to say im going for moral support but im really going to check out the talent !!;) :rotfl::rotfl:
i so need a holiday and having just "aquired" some dosh feel like just booking somewhere hot and disapearing.....only for a week :D

i have read all the posts but my memory is shute at the mo so apologies if ive not commented on anything i really should have :o

Oh dear, some of us are having issues at the moment, and in my book, having stuff nicked is one of the worst things that can happen. It's the whole privacy and violation of personal space thing, more than the cost in £££ terms.

Just had a visit from our local planning officer, who has changed into someone younger and less laissez faire, so maybe not good news. He wasn't sure about our intention to go upwards and seemed surprised that his predecessor had suggested it less than two years ago when we went to him for guidance.

So, he didn't say yes & he didn't say no.......

I told him that we have a Plan B, but it's rubbish. :(

There's Plan C as well, which is to say "Sod this!" and leave it for some other mug to sort out. :rotfl:

Well the weather have kept dry so far today... so fingers crossed..

I know what you mean Davesnave, its not what they have 'nicked' but the thought of someone actually 'nicking' from our land...

Theft is horrid. With the mild problems we have had i know it makes one feel violated.

Sunny morning while i was out, as i got home clouds rolled over and temperatures dropped again.....so stupid.

It has been a couple of years since I posted on this thread (well, the old thread, I expect). We are still dreaming. Came pretty close to realising the dream last summer, but it all fell apart. Things have been up and down, more down than up sometimes :( Hubby lost his job and hasnt been able to find a new full time one. He has two part time jobs that amount to 9 hours a week work, so things are tighter than ever, but we are managing, by being very frugal. It does mean that work on the house is slower and more DIY than we hoped, but it is getting there. I also lost my mother and there is a fair bit of vandalism and theft goes on around here (so I completely sympathise with those who have suffered thefts recently - it's horrid, even after it happeniong several times).

What we planned for the garden is only starting now - veg plot in full swing (at least, that part of it that is done), other bits starting to come together - eg the pond I started digging several years ago is almost ready for filling with water (had the liner for yonks).

To refresh the minds of those who might remember, the dream is to move to Scotland, build our own home and be at least cost neutral, even if we cant be entirely self sufficient. Last summer we found the ideal piece of land - a bit larger than we had intended, but pretty cheap and the possibility of building on it too (croft house already there, in need of complete rebuilding). Property in Scotland takes several months and sometimes years before anyone buys it. We found this one the day after it had been put on the market. Within the week we had contacted the planning department and the estate agents and it looked really good - but then we got a call saying the plot had had an offer made on it and the vendor had accepted. we hadnt even got past first base. So we are still looking!

Neighbour just been around to warn me he expects tomorow night to be like last thursday. I could weep. We also expect car crashes....every pne has been pulling silage in today but the fields are soggy still, so the mud on the road is bad.

    Hi RuthG
I wouldn't have been around when you posted before so "Hello".
Sounds like you've had a rough time :(

Sorry to hear of the thefts. As has been said, it's usually the feeling of violation that's even worse than the theft itself.
Unfortunately, when it comes to things like wood, people seem to think it's finders keepers. :(
If it moves nail it down or lock it away is just as applicable in the countryside, sadly.

The TV is giving out flood warnings for Devon & Cornwall & telling owners of caravan & campsites to be "ready to take action", LIR.
I hope everyone escapes without problems.

Hope the planning gets sorted out to your liking, Dave. There's neither rhyme nor reason to the way Planning works, IMO.

Hope your umph is back, alfie & that the HW has managed to get Ruby to a stage where the farrier can cut her toenails. Our 2 need doing. We haven't even moved them off the winter paddock yet. :o

    Hi Ruthg..

sorry to hear about the rough time you have been having, you are not alone.. honeybun... for what ever reason it seems as though we all have had a rough time, with poo happening on this thread...

Dont be dis-heartened, I know it is easy to say now that i have actually got a place, i rememeber Davesnave and everyone telling me the same thing..... Keep looking, keep Dreaming, as one day you never know......

Please dont be a stranger.... allways nice to see people posting from the past...

Yep i think its batten down the hatches again tomorrow....This summer is a bit of a joke so far.... well especially for my veg etc....really do hope that my runner beans can withstand another rain/wind bashing....to late now, but i think tomorrow after work, i might try and put some sort of protective polythene around them....my sprouts and courgettes that i have planted out are not looking happy either...

Right off to see if i can sleep....lol....

CTC.... if the noise starts early and finishes late...check with ,i think, the envoirenmental services what the permitted hours are for "the build". when planning is given there is usually stipulations.... when you find out..dont complain if they are breaking the work hours quota but contact the company ...say you know they are breaking the rules but if they would consider buying your property then you wont make an issue of it... ;)cheaper for them than to lose hours [until some one else complains...] which will cost them big time ... just one of my wacky/maybe not so wacky ideas....:D :o
