I can't find a large enough online photo which shows the door well enough to send you
but I'll send a small one & try to describe it
At a guess our door is about 8' high x 12' wide. The mechanism (the track & wheels) are heavy galvanised steel as is the skeleton of the door itself. The door slides back completely behind the building wall when open. From outside it looks like an ordinary thick-planked door.
It has a heavy duty bolt which slides into the wooden frame & is then padlocked.0 -
LIR.... flipping heck:eek:.... sorry to hear about the chooks... I know what you mean about the sound of giving up sounds tempting, ( flip and i have only had the keys to our place 2 months, and havent done much there yet)
All these things that happen are a pain... and deflating, and really do get on your t!ts especially when its one thing after another, and nothing ever seems to go right... I allways find a good soak in the bath, a good balls out cry, a cuppa and a biscwit:D allways help.....
I think its half term so no mythrin for the twins....
do hope everything is ok especially being in the static caravan with the kiddywinkles in this wind and weatherWork to live= not live to work0 -
Whats mythrin? Is it nursery?
Yep, just how i feel ctc. Too cross to evyen have a weep about it.
Anyway, tidied up the laburnum corner. Seems some of the laburnum is still standing, so ripped the ivy off it and tidied up, given it a chance....the rest is up to it. If we don't get round the back to start the same job on the no good plums then i will be content, we have got some tidied up anyway.
Bought some paint for a botch decorating job if it rains tomorrow. The lack of progress might not feel so bad if its a nice colour. I don't mind peach ppbut would not have chosen it, and think its time to start putting things we would choose around us, so we feel more stuck in.
The inactivity forced by weather over breaking new ground, combinded with just lack of progression seeps into the bones and is dispiriting, so just want to keep busy now!0 -
It's certainly not good around Machynlleth & Aberystwyth with all the flooding.
All I can say, LIR & CTC, is that no matter how bad it gets I've found there's usually someone somewhere who has got it worse.
These things happen & often happen again & again. At least, at the moment, any damage has come before you've really got started.
Not much help, I know, but .........0 -
hi all......
well the sun has returned today, the wind has dropped and NO RAINBUT i had to water all my pots and veg cos the wind had dryed them out....
i seemed to have doodled around today doing mundane things [that needed doing] i went and got some nice fuschia plants and have put em in my urn .... i tried to climb the garden wall/railings to get the ivy off the big pillar but couldnt get to the top, hip "said NO" ... i did spot 2 pidgeon eggs in a nest in the adjoining hedge..:)
bees were out today [no sign last 2 days]... i am worried they will not have enough POLLEN ? or whatever they need to survive. is there any tips on anything i can do/give them please....anyone ?? im very fond of my bee's
i turned dora and flo out today...oooo they are very much better !! they charged across the field like theyd just escaped alcatraz ...:rotfl: were rolling, bucking, jumping around ....
all the others were a tad bewildered at thier behaviour ..:D
tomorow morning im moving my cousin [she's just back from spain tonite] into the other place away from "attila the hun"
if attila says one word to me...i will of course answer her.....:D
then in the afternoon iv the hoss whisperer coming to hopefully get the headcollar on ruby with no traumas. not sure wether to stable her then to really work with her ...but i dont want her to think headcollar equals punishment [ie contained in a stable]....i will have to see....
hope everyone has suffered no further damage from the weather.0 -
Morning all, the sun is shining! :j
I've not been up to much. The winds did a little damage here but not enough to moan about - sorry to LIR and CTC and anyone else with much damage and things to put right. Sometimes Nature just chucks us some grief and reminds us who's in charge!
Yesterday I went up the garden at 8:30 to put the chicken to bed, to find the local young dog fox curled up asleep in the garden. Cheeky little sod! He didn't hear me coming but as soon as I dropped the pophole he was off like a shot. I've no wish to harm him but I have been known to throw a jug of water in his direction late at night when he's been making a lot of noise out there with another fox. Also we have a metal shed, so after the jug of water I banged the jug a good few times on the shed and that made a decent racket. Next door but one have chickens too, so we're both vulnerable, but both sets are shut in at night. Hearing foxes in the garden stresses me so much after previous losses
We are, however, looking to expand the flock (from one to three or four), so it's as good a time as any to build a new chicken house. I love designing my own, I know I can buy something similar for under £100 but it's more satisfying I think. And tongue and groove looks very nice but, in my opinion, it gives more little crevices for red mite and stuff to lurk and get to my hens. Two sheets of plywood (which I'll have to get cut before they'll fit in the car) and some timber which we have already, and maybe some uPVC cladding on the roof, and I'll be done. Oh, and a good few hours work too. I'm trying to get my head round allowing for the thickness of the plywood... where's my DH? That's his forte "...And if it don't feel good, what are you doing it for?" - Robbie Williams - 'Candy'0 -

LIR.... sorry yes mythrin is nursery...
I think our Rozee is from that area Welsh Poppy..
Really hope Rozee and the family are ok:o:o
has anyone got a contact no for her? if they have maybe a quick text to see if everything is ok?
I am sure she said something about the move etc, so maybe no internet connection etc too
Ordered 1lb glass jars off e.b.a.y yesturday. I ordered 56:cool::D for £22. plus £7.50 postage, which after looking at prices in ascot poultry supplies and a few other places, It was the cheapest i could find. I could also have a choice of lids too, from gold, silver, black, red or blue gingham. went for the gold...
so if anyone wants jars for making chutney or jams etc, and cant get them any cheaper etc, I will put a link up for you.
The weather brightened up as the day went on yesturday, but back to grey and over-cast today..
want to try and get some carrots sown up the new place, and plant out the rest of my runner beans etc in this garden...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Well, if things have been a bit bleak for some, here's a laugh for you....It was lawnmower try out day yesterday.
First I tried out the new monster mower in the orchard, which was about a foot high in most places and almost double that in parts. It did the job, but I found it pretty heavy and I needed a rest after about an hour of it. Two hours of work finished the initial cut.
Sooo....after lunch I thought I'd see how the mower would manage the garden. It did a reasonable job, but being wide, it couldn't get into some of the hollows as well as the Mountfield does. Anyway, I gained confidence and decided to move it out of first gear, but I think I got third by mistake and it fairly took off....
Well, you can more or less guess what happened. To emergency stop the beast, one's supposed to just let go of the handles, but that is not intuitive, especially when it is heading for DW's favourite pink wheelbarrow... I did get it stopped, but unfortunately, not before it had ravaged the wheelbarrow, knocking it over and exploding the tyre.:o:o
I'm not sure what 4th gear is used for!!!
The noise was enough to alert DW before I could spirit the wheelbarrow away for repairs, but luckily, I had a spare wheel & tyre in the shed, so I escaped major censure. Will be visiting the tyre man tomorrow. :A0 -

Rozee is safe from flooding, I think, but the wind affected everyone and it wouldn't have been much fun in a caravan.0
