Rozee - Keep an eye open for farm sales & auctions. They can often have all sorts of things (literally....you'll be amazed at what gets sold:rotfl:) including machinery, vehicles, trailers. In fact, just about everything 'farm' plus loads beside.

Funny enough, hubby and I were talking about a trailer this afternoon... as we store our straw etc in work:D and when we bring it some it does make a mess in the range rover or van..

Our friends who used to breed pigs have a livestock trailer, which the lights dont work, sooooooooo hubby is going to fix the lights and in return we can borrow it...but we are keeping an eye out for a second hand good CHEAP livestock trailer...

can anyone see the need for a detachable tow bar? They're £100 more.
You can get detachable tow bars...?

I'm guessing they are for your image concious range rover driver, who occasionally needs to tow princesses ponies to the local gymkhana, but who doesn't want a tow bar on the back all the time.
I bet CTC has one :D

We just had a quote for a large skip. £200  The trailer would quickly pay for itself after a few journeys to the tip. We've got a lot of rubbish to shift.

Check your local tips rules, some of them round here don't allow trailers, or have limits on the amount of times you can come and loads of other restrictions, I used to have a hell of a time getting my van in one.

That's a very good point! In Sheffield, I had to register our van with the council and you had twelve free passes a year if it was domestic waste. We didn't have a trailer then.

We had one on the old defender. Its a good security measure but they are quite clunky.

Also if ypu get a removable then for goodness sake remove it! They get pinched in car parks.

In fact, we could probably sell ours!

the rules of our tips are.........
if your van is sign written you cannot unload at municipal tip. you have to go to the trade tip and pay.unless you can prove its not commercial.

unwritten vans can unload on a permit from the council. free but has to be signed each drop. 12 squares to sign. when you apply for a new one they can estimate how many tip drops you do in the time of the 12 . if too often then you will be classed as trade.
    trailers....max 8' x 5'...no permit needed.
can be towed by EMPTY van [no junk] and tipped.
