Just spun some Jacob and I LOVED it and it is ideal for weaving :D
Have you been to the National Woollen Mill in Drefach Felindre, Rummer? We took the kids the other week. It was really interesting.

    Re builders bags....

I use them on the tow bar of the car for poo picking. Far from ideal, but better than wheelbarrow from far away, we would spend hours walking back and forward!

I cannot empty them, so that has to wait till dh is here.
I thought you were buying a giant poo hoover on steroids? :p

Yeah, we want to. But.....have not yet. Not sure which model to get (i have only been trying to decide for two years now:rotfl:) and money can be better used elsewhere i suppose.

The other thing is, it has occured to dh and i that with fuel costs and time, it might be better ethically to provide some part time local employment to this end.

I could certainly do with two people, some one to help with poop and other animal related stuff, and a good labouring handy man two days a month.

I feel very confused about what to do financially atm. I could take a business loan and build the stables, which could start paying off the loan quite quickly i would hope, but if they do not then.......

I need to put a ditch and hedge and fence in this autumn too, that won't be too cheap.

The second person comes first, but cannot find one by word of mouth (just a few ideas of people who want to get money for nothing) and i am dubious about advertising. Answered one ad, and the guy was hopeless and hapless both.
  • I do not envy you dreamers doing up old places. Just ripped the bathroom out of our 1930s house, it was about 30 years old & we had a water management system in place to deal with the myriad leaks but it got too much earlier this year, but omg whenever you touch anything there is always some disaster underneath it, the kitchen was the same, costs go up, have to take more time off etc the worst thing is toilet requirements! *wails*

Sigh. Our bathroom is above the room that will be our dingping room. There is a big black patch where the stupid bath splashes water out...

Ok, off to do some weeding...

I feel your pain. 6 years ago we put in a new kitchen, it has remained unpainted since in order to catch & monitor the leakage from the bathroom, we only discovered it leaking when we took the kitchen out as one wall was soaked. The ceiling is like a patchwork! We are using the same builder and he was highly amused the kitchen was still unpainted, but at least when the new bathroom is done we can paint the kitchen & it will be like having a new one again :). Bit by bit! :)

We've just spent a couple of hours touring the 'estate' and working out what comes next regarding fencing etc. It's never straightforward, though.

For example, one fence we'd like to do goes straight through next door's leylandii, which have grown over it, and then, at the end, they've made one of the posts an integral part of their compost bin! Hmm, that will be fun to negotiate....:o

Mole Valley have a 2 day wood sale here, so we shall work out what we want and, hopefully, save a bob or two. We get our strainers, struts & gateposts from them, but the intermediate posts come from somewhere else, about 45 miles away.

For the sake of peace, i would refence inside that bit, leaving them the old post. Its just not worth falling out or fueling dischord, or reason to leave dogs out.

Last year a wall between next doors cows and our horses was knocked down by the relief farm worker. He made a temporary fix, took a year almost, to repair.....but we spoke about it straight away to establish whose job would be to repair. Becuase of the awkward north boundary line here we have a lot of areas for potential disagreement, but imo, six feet here or there and good relations are worth a lot.

My geese keep going next door atm, about which i feel very guilty and have not managed to see my neighbours yet, the relief is, they cannot complain too much as their chickens come over all the time, and their peacocks have moved in here....they keep offering to give me food to make up for what the peacocks eat, but i remind them i think i get the better deal....i get to see the beauties here....you never know there might be eggs in the future!
