I got up on the builder's scaffold at the end of the barn the other day to see if I could re-create a shot I took in 2009. I couldn't, because the polytunnel is right where I'd need to stand, but this was the next best thing.
The two shots are here:

Glad your allotment plot isn't a nightmare, Maggie. Before and after shots of that too?0 -
well done on the lottie Maggie:beer::beer:
Alfie.. lol.. your phone going into meltdown, must be some 'hot' texts going on there:D glad the family bbq went well...
Davesnave... WOW what a change...:T:T:T
I need to buy a scaffolding tower, we have decided, rather than hire one, we would be better off buying one, as the ranch is going to be done in stages, to hire scaffolding for a long length of time, or a few times will cost loads...
Would it be worth me potting up some of the sweet woodruff, to sell next year???
Right better go to work...:o:o:o I sooooo wish I could just be up the ranch all the time... and just plod along with the land and the pigs:A:A:AWork to live= not live to work0 -
Hello, my lovelies! I'm so excited. Partly because the builders have started, partly because the weather is fabulaous and partly because I've discovered how to create a weblink stright from my camera app to my phone, so I can post some pics.
There's a lot been happening on here! My mum's visiting and we've had to tidy up ready fopr the builders, so not much time on the computer.
Glad you had good news, Rhiw. Health worries are a great challenge. there seems to be a lot of age related sickness bobbing about for our rellos. No one's getting any younger....
Anyway, here's a tester for the web link thing. We found this in the house. Wondered if it was the answer to all our financial prayers as it claims to be 1701. According to Th'interweb, it's a common fake - bloody Aussies!

Okay. That seems to work. After a fashion. Here are the house pics at the start:

Urggh! Too slow. I'll try later....
The kids are in the paddling pool. That's the first time that's happened since March 2012!0 -
Hello all, hope you are ok,
Such a shame about the plots Davesnave wonder if that’s because the whole “good life” phase has blown over??
Noticed that quite a few of you have big gardens, all very lovely, how big is the space that you have Davesnave??
How close to self-sufficent is everyone on here?
Sorry about the questions I'm quite nosey lol!!
Nothing much happing here as its Practice and TT week, hoping to finish the raised beds up in the allotment this weekend and then do a mass sowing of veg!!
Bought some cute jam jars, hoping to start making alot of jam without sugar or pectin and use a honey, lemon and apple mix to make it set/sweeten it. Has anyone done this before??Nessy x

:j:T:j:T:j for Rozee & Maggie. Busy times ahead.
You've certainly made a big difference, Dave.
We have all different sizes of land, agreenmess. I'm about in the middle, I think, with just over 3 acres. However, this place wasn't bought with self-sufficiency in mind & was more to do with the buildings than the land. The land has just got used because it was there &, if you don't use it, then it runs to ruin.0 -
Typical, you show me a house piccie, rozee, and I think "There's a nice fence!" :rotfl:Grand that your project is now under way.
Maggie, that's a great use for an avocado bath. You'll have that place dug over in no time!
We have 5.5 acres here, greenmess, but the fields are more under control now and not creating so much work as they did when they were full of ragwort, thistle and dock. I suppose we have about an acre of garden/chicken areas/barns etc which is enough for most people, us included.
We let out the two fields in return for logs, pork and occasional help with stuff like chopping trees down.
I bought a new camera today, as my decent one got too much mud and poo in it.:( I've gone back to Flickr because Photobucket changed everything last year and I didn't finish 2012. We'll see how that goes.....My diary for the previous two or three years is here. It was intended to show the sort of jobs people might expect when they take on a smallholding, but inevitably it wandered about a bit! :

I've also ordered all the wood needed for completing the barn, which is essential work this summer if we are to have dry logs and furniture next year!0 -
Rozee, so is that a gaming token?
Dave, so much achieved!
Land, I'm at the miniscule end of the land spectrumWhich is just as well as my back went again on Friday and the weekend away morphed into a painful day trip. So no gardening for a week or two
Self sufficient? We put a lot of effort into reducing power and water demand and using what space we have to generate power, grow lots of fruit, veg and we have a couple of productive chooks. Long way from being self sufficient though!0 -
Sorry to hear about the back, rhiw.
Take it easy & enjoy the sunshine while it's here. :cool:0
