You know how they always portray those little old wise women/witches as bent double? It's nothing to do with age it's all the bl**dy bending over to pick stuff :rotfl:0 -
Hairy bittercress is "Weed of the Year" here too.
I like hairy bitter cress - in salad. Bit fiddly be wonderful over the winter. I grow it on the plot as winter ground cover.
Managed to get half a day feeding cucubits, making a refuge for brassica seedlings to grow in the sun and then plant on the ones that were overcrowded, and managed an hour on the plot.
Going to see if I can do another hour tonight or might do a bit more sitting weedling on the fish box.
We have SUN, lots and lots and it looks like at least two weeks more. Oh boy!If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

First hitch of the build, day two. No broadband or landline. It looks like someone has been over zealous when stripping out cables in the attic....
I'm trying to be circumspect about it. You can't make an omelette and all that.
Another hitch, it seems there's no prospect of keeping the old septic tank. First of all, it's too close to the house and will be even closer when we move the house towards it by extending. Secondly, we can't just move it back a bit because that moves it closer to the watercourse, our stream. Anyway, in reality, it's probably not fit for purpose. The house was built for a couple. They never had kids. Now we're extending to accommodate a family of five, plus, probably one or two of the 'Rents, possibly B&B.... We reckon a water treatment plant for at least 8 is more suitable. Any words of wisdom?0 -
There's always something that doesn't go smoothly.
I can't help on the treatment plant, rozee, sorry. All I would say is make sure that you have MORE than enough capacity.
When we did the conversions we had a 32 person onion put in. You, obviously, aren't going to need anything to cope with those sort of numbers but it's still better to go over than have the thing 'overloading'.0 -

I've never known whether weedkiller actually kills seeds pre-germination or not.
The trouble is that it's so easy to think you've pulled it all & then looked at from another angle you see all the little blighters you've missed. :rotfl: It's not like the weeds with larger leaves that stand out. These are all delicate little things.
Oh BTW, there's a poster elsewhere asking about small holdings. It seems that it's more a sort of nursery/plant thing he (presumably given the name) has in mind as opposed to a small holding including livestock.
I directed him over here but he may be too shyI didn't really want to say go track down Davesnave. :rotfl:
Too late I've tracked you down!!:rotfl:0 -
:rotfl: That took you all day! :rotfl:
As I said there are several knowledgeable souls here (count me out) who can probably help you with different aspects of what you'd like to know. So ask away :cool:0 -

Definitely a water treatment centre. Planners like them and the overflow is easier than a soak away. You can even attach a swap hose in summer and water direct from the outflow. We haven't done that yet, but keep thinking about it. When we have a garden in In a closer bit of the garden is soon enough i suppose0
