    Hi all:j

Well went to see the local piglets.. there was no way I was going to pay what he was asking for 'runty' looking things. made an excuse and left them there. especially after what he said he fed them, and didn't know about movement restrictions etc..

so def auction on this Friday:cool::rotfl:

stayed up the ranch , and totally wish I could be there full time, no work, just plodding along in the garden an with the pigwigs...

Just nipped home, as I need to go and do the daily collection of piggy food, an then back up to the ranch for a few more hours...

been having bonfires most of the weekend..:D a HUGE conifer was cut down last year, and it has been there ever since, the weather was way too wet etc to burn the thin branches etc... so now they have died back etc... we are burning the carp, an cutting the big trunks ready for the fire this winter..

We also cut down the huge apple tree:o it was fill of canker stuff etc, and last year an this there wasn't much blossom on it, so..down it came.. which has really opened up that part of the garden.. there is also a huge holly tree, which we are thinking of cutting down too, will post some pics later..

We need to think of a new thread title so start thinking:D

Omg, what I'd do for a huge holly. Is it female? No potential gate sale bunches for Christmases?

was thinking that, haven't got a clue if its female, don't think there was berries on it, the leaves a like 'normal' leaves, an the new growth look 'picky'. Also the branches that have grown down wards, and have touch! the soil have 'layered' an have sprouted loads of new holly plants under the huge tree..( which is very shaded)

I can take some pics tomorrow, and if the small holly plants are any good for you I can dig some up, disconnect them from the main branches an post some to you.

Edit.... the tree must be a good 30 plus foot

My known females are flowering now, and have some berries on still from winter.

I honestly don't know what to do about our attempt at a holly hedge. It's more dead than alive, the leaves on the live ones are pale, but some seem to grow fine. I don't know whether to try potting them all up, growing them on and seeing if we can further improve the soil they are in or what. It cannot stay as it is much longer.

Holly's do sometimes go not prickly, I don't know why!

DS1 a happy chappy as he's been clipping, not so happy as his new hand piece didn't work very well and is going to be sent back. Weeded the raspberry bed but had to stop as the bin was full! Currently I don't have a compost bin, hens are completely free range and the only thing I'm growing are bunnies!!!

Going to pick up 40 trailing Lobelia plants tomorrow for £8 , I use these to plant in the old knackered wellies. Must remember to get some compost.

It looks like sweet woodruff to me, CTC

    Sorry, should have continued....
It's a wildflower but used in gardens in shady areas. In fact, it's a lovely old herb. The 'sweet' refers to the smell & it was once used as a clothes freshener/preserver.
Unless you desperately want the space, I'd keep it.

Sweet woodruff is very useful for covering unloved shady areas and keeping weeds at bay. It used to be hard to find, so we sold quite a lot of it.

DW is back from Brum and the car is clean, so we can see all the scratches again now. :rotfl:I was looking at the cars parked on Village Day, and any that were over a few years old seemed to be like ours, with the nearside slightly scratched from frequent brushes with hedges. :o

Another quiet day here. I suppose the forage harvesters would normally be dashing around with their attendant tractors and trailers, but we are still well behind.

I have a few mini tomatoes on some plants now, so all that flitting about with a paintbrush may have helped. :)

We liked our half plot! :j We have a half share in a shed that we share with the other half of the plot, but it's at our end. Raspberry bushes and 3 huge rhubarb plants in place, there are some poppies coming amongst the general weeds. Lots of couch grass, and the end by the shed where I was digging was the dreaded bindweed! But given time we'll get it out. Came home about 4.30 to get going on the couch grass in the garden! :rotfl:

Think we might go back today for a while - not sure yet as OH has to go out to DD2s place to collect some bricks to replace the edging in garden - the ones that were there have crumbled away to powder over the past 3 winters!

Had phone call from DD1 while we were at the allotment, she's planning on coming up at the weekend and staying for a week. Will have to escape to the allotment for some peace and quiet! ;)
