Not exactly. The aerial was on top of the roof, and logically received (I presume) from the Oxford transmitter, which is just to the north. When he put it on the back, it clearly couldn't get a signal from there.
I'll check for the masthead amplifier (it's a little thing on the stem of the aerial, right?) tonight.
I definitely had the Antiference unit, until I threw it out, idiot that I am... :-(0 -
Is this kind of thing any good?

The one I had before was a bit bigger than that, kind of brick-shaped.0 -

Yes if it is actually a power supply that you need for an existing masthead amp but was it an amp that you used to have? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
As I think I mentioned before at some point in this endless thread, I don't remember where the Antiference thing came from exactly.
Matters are now further confused (surprise surprise), because I had a look at the aerial, and in fact there doesn't appear to be anything at all attached to the stem of the aerial. The only thing is a kind of clamp at the top, which I presume is just there to hold the active bit on.0 -
So... was about to buy a power supply like the one I had before, but is that a waste of money given the above?0

We don't know, because we can't see what is connected to your aerial. Have you followed the cabling down to investigate-maybe something in your loft?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
The cable doesn't go into the loft - just goes round the house and through the front wall. There is nothing attached to it at any point. But yes, there was an Antiference units before.0

If the cable runs from the back around the side of the house to the front, why not move the aerial to the front, so that you can point towards the local Oxford transmitter and shorten the cable length which will be adding uncessary attenuation to the signal? The installer sounds like a right cowboy to use a distant transmitter when there is one locally, unless there is a very good reason that you have not explained to us. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I don't think there is any special reason. The issue is that I paid over £100 for this, and I really can't afford to pay it all over again!0

Can you not get this cowboy back to sort out this pathetic install then? There is no logic in using a distant transmitter ten times the distance from your local one! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
