Your Bangernomics successes

Picked up another MK1 Ford Focus yesterday, this time a 1.6 Ghia with 12 month MOT and low mileage for only £650. Absolutely immaculate and very clean apart from one or two small age related marks here and there. Tonnes of service history and invoices going back to when it was first on the road right up until last week when It had new brake pipes, discs and pads fitted. Cracking!

Not sure if it's noticeable in the photo but it's actually a cover but it seems like it's been professionally done and tightly stitched together. I assume the steering wheel had actually worn out a bit in this case too.GunJack said:

That looks a superb buy for £6503

Another successful Bangernomics success today. My wife’s 2009 Toyota Corolla Verso was in for its MoT. Passed with 2 advisories that can be picked up later.
Total cost £45 for the fee.
Total spend 2021 so far, £423.5 -
Just a year update my Punto got through it's Mot , work needed was new front brakes and new coil spring plus had a new suspension arm to be safe cost £190 all in so not bad fingers crossed the car lasts.3

Well, after around 8 months, the "new" Fusion is going in next week for a rear wheel bearingGunJack said:
We'll see...this one has a lot to live up to after the last one...and I've only got £188 to play with for 3.5 years to beat itDeleted_User said:
Bargain motoring at it's best! So, £713 to start with fresh MoT, and no sign of any other issues!!
Although I do feel like a pauper driving around in my new battered 2004 Focus Zetec even though my 2014 Focus TDCI is at home.

That'll eat £60 off the remaining "beat the old Fusion" budget... but in fairness it's done an extra 2000 miles in the last fortnight, which if I hadn't had to do, it probably would have lasted to next March's MoT

I think you’ll find the verso will last you another 10 years! (If you keep it serviced)tommyedinburgh said:Another successful Bangernomics success today. My wife’s 2009 Toyota Corolla Verso was in for its MoT. Passed with 2 advisories that can be picked up later.

I’ve listed my Yaris banger on gumtree, I need something bigger. I quite fancy a...Verso.
Actually got my eye on a 2008 petrol one on gumtree. Just need the Yaris to sell first.1 -
Another year of cheap motoring, the 20 year old Golf passed the MOT but advisory needed a set of rear brake discs and pads, total cost £43. That's £1 less than the MOT cost me!
Looking online at other cars it seems that Bangernomics is a bit more tricky with the current new car issues. Similar cars to mine are silly money when the cars are far from perfect. One at £900 with no MOT, another nearly £600 when it's an insurance write off with side crash damage. To me neither are worth much more than scrap with the issues, they could be put back on the road but with the cost and risk involved they'd need to be much cheaper for me to want to do it.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.2
