  • Just had Megane in garage to look at the exhaust. Says it is rotten from the flexi down and will be roughly £200 to fix. LOL.

I'm glad you can laugh about it!

    Not sure where you live.

But check to see if there is a Jaystock near you as they supply a lot of the trade with exhausts.

Decent quality in my experience aswell.

I'm laughing at the high price, on ECP the parts seem to be price at £18 one section, £20 another, £6 for a clamp!

Last time I had an exhaust was on the 206 at a cost of £135.

No Jaystock round here. All the local garages usually use NPA, Andrew Page and ECP.
Surely it's still worth doing, £200 for another years motoring.

A friend took her A3 through rather a deep puddle yesterday. Hydralocked the engine. Car written off, fortunately insurance to pay out.

Yep, getting it done first thing. Car still at garage, good job am on a day off tomorrow.

So you are paying them £150 labour to fit - not very MSE!

I'll see what the invoice says but I hope not.
  • Got Megane back, invoice says supply and fit new catalytic converter. Total damage £198 that's including fitting and VAT.

Had a quick look under car but not a proper look as it's !!!!ing down and ground is wet, I can see a new braided flexi pipe after the engine and a new box after that. Rest of pipe and back box not replaced.

its a pig of a job as the cat is part of that flexi..however the cat is iirc £66 at ECP ( use the reserve online jobby for that price and use code extra10 for 10% off)
then a couple of hours labour so not too far off if they are replacing the cat in with that price..
failing that if you can get to Tow Law ridleys are exhaust people and should do it a bit cheaper..

edit.. £198 isnt a bad price.. fitted..

Yep, noticed it is £66 on ECP plus I had the 10% code email the other day too. Sadly couldn't fit one myself with no ramp access.

Got a few sneaky quotes from a few other local garages, all would have ranged from £187-£212 fitted.

There is no way that it would take two hours to fit that cat, twenty minutes more like - that is some mark up!
  • Oh and I need to re-enter the radio code, so looks like they have had the battery disconnected. Why would that need to be done to swap a cat over?
