An update on the SDI Lupo.
Just hit 150k miles (on about 150500 at the moment). Still running good and doesn't look like it wants to quit any time soon.
I do all the oil changes, fuel filter and air filter changes myself.
I've done 60k of the 150k so far. Hard to believe in the 2.5 years of ownership, I've done over half the amount of miles it actually came to me.
92k miles in about 14 years.

You are aware that as you don't have a VAG with the 2.0tdi engine your comments regarding the oil pump issue on the 2.0tdi engine in a different thread are irrelevant?
Not sure how the reliability of your SDi Lupo relates to an engineering flaw in the 2.0TDi???
As you like a link I have given you a few below, enjoy.....champ.

The car in question was bought three years ago. It is a 2001 Citroen Xsara and it cost me £700. Due to severe financial problems at the time that was the first banger I had bought since I was in my twenties. Although it had a years MOT when I bought it and seemed clean, it was a bad buy I have to admit as it was bought in a hurry because the MOT of my existing car was due to expire in a few weeks and my mechanic told me that it would not pass the MOT and was not worth fixing.
Now back to the car I bought three years ago for £700 and its problems that I would encounter with it. It had just been MOTed so after 11 months I took it to my mechanic to get it prepared for the MOT. He told me it was not worth fixing as it had an oil leak which was due to a blown head gasket and various other things that needed fixing. Anyway, I managed to calm the mechanic down and go through all the items he said that needed done and eventually got the work done for about £500. That might seem a lot to spend on a banger costing £700 but it was cheaper than buying another banger and possibly buying more trouble and to be honest I just did not have the money to buy a non-banger.
Anyway, after that I decided to do all my own repairs and I have since put it through a two MOT tests. I have had to do a few repairs but have spent about £100 in total since that £500 bill from my mechanic.
So it is three years driving for about £200 per year on maintenance and a full years MOT's still left.
As I have said, this is a story perhaps of how not to buy a banger. The lesson for me is not to buy in a hurry.
Just for future reference you would likely have passed the MOT with an oil leak, especially if the vehicle had an under tray and you cleaned the oil off.
The Xsara Picasso is a lot more reliable than many believe, though due to the discounts when new and poor residuals many made it into the hands of less fastidious owners.
A family friend has owned one from new, 03reg, and he has not had any issues with it, he still uses the Main Dealer that he bought it and his wife's previous C2 from, the C2 was a 53plate diesel which was also faultless till if was written off 3yrs ago.
His wife replaced that with an ill advised purchase of another C2, bought only because it was a C2. at an auction. A poorly maintained VTS or VTR with the semi autobox, it was problematic from day 1.0 -

As a Volkswagen Audi enthusiast, I am absolutely aware of the 2.0 TDI oil pump issue. It's been a hot topic on various VW forums and has brought up your typical questions. It certainly doesn't make my views on it irrelevant. Unless you have a Dacia Duster, then I can easily say the same about you???
By the way, it's nice to see your objective side as well. Volkswagen have made 1000's of engines in their history when you include all the industrial engines that they've produced over the years. One 2.0TDI has a design fault and you're seriously willing to say that Volkswagen can't make a good engine:cool:

Just phoning round for cambelt quotes for the Hyundai, couldn't believe how clueless the local main agent was. First they couldn't find my car, presumably as it was so old. Then they couldn't tell me if the price included kit/tensioners or just the belt, then they said the water pump as well (as you do) would be an extra £400! I won't be going there then...0

Main agents aren't interested in anything over 5 years old. They are just interested in selling new cars.0 -
Thought one of my numberplate bulbs was out on the 2001 Megane so went change it. Turns out the contacts that hold the bulb in place are slack and therefore making the bulb wobble and flicker.0

From tomorrow, I will be leaving the realms of bangernomics and entering the realm of a brand new car (Motability).
Still have Peggy, she is still going strong and it looks like my brother will be her new owner. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

No all 2.0TDis have a design fault
And if you know so much about VAGs you will know that the "fix" was far from successful, it was an improvement not a complete cure.
Won't mention the cracking sumps on the 2.0TDi either.......0
