Just phoning round for cambelt quotes for the Hyundai, couldn't believe how clueless the local main agent was. First they couldn't find my car, presumably as it was so old. Then they couldn't tell me if the price included kit/tensioners or just the belt, then they said the water pump as well (as you do) would be an extra £400! I won't be going there then...

In fairness older Hyundais owe more to Mitsubishi than Hyundai.

The OH doesn't like my Passat and declared she would like another Grand Voyager.
Had a look around, would have been looking at between 4-8k.
Let it settle for a few days, and asked her today if she really wanted one.
She's decided there's no point in getting something just now (both our cars have a long MOT, and whilst needing some mtce work, which I'll get round to, they start and stop ok).
    So theres another massive saving.
Oh and the alloys off my old GV that we saved also fit her Kia, so I'm going to break the habit of a lifetime and fit winter tyres to them, just to see what all the fuss is about.

  • Oops, I've went and done something silly and bought a diesel guzzling 4x4
Makes it into the bangernomics category price wise, if I sell the Passat it'll help justify it, but if I can find an insurer that'll mirror NCB, I might just run the both of them for a wee while.
Which isn't really very MSE, but if I hadn't bought it, I'd probably have bought another motorbike, which would be useless in the 36 days of snow forecast for Scotland ;)

    Picked her up today, £1000.

1996 Mitsubushi Challenger 2.8 TD Auto. 7 months MOT, couple of wee faults, nothing thats not been needed on other purchases.

Done nearly 300 miles home, never missed a beat. Auto box great, temp gauge never moved whether in traffic or sitting at 70.

    Very happy with it.

Edited to add, looks to be getting 22 MPG
  • I like it! Amazing what you can get for a grand these days.
  • Exhaust blowing on the 2001 1.6 Megane, not sure if it might be the baffles in the cat or just a part of the exhaust pipe as it only makes a noise under acceleration. Been doing it a couple of weeks now but noticeably louder today.

I'll be taking it to a garage sharp tomorrow morning with my wallet. :(

its chance to be either the non standard french clamp rotted out ( between cat and middle box) or flexi on the cat side..
the clamp is about £1.50 from euro and about 10 mins to fit...

Got a 03 reg Rover 40, 5 door saloon 1.8L auto for £1250 in 2012. Not bad for a 12 year old car which I bought in 2012. Only had brake pads and bulbs replacing, nothing major. Worked like a well oiled machine. Had 29k miles on the clock when I bought it

Sadly the powers that be, decided enough was enough and someone banged into my rear and wrote my car off.

So no more bangeromics for me but a new Hybrid for me :) Car brokers are the way to go for new cars, so much cheaper, got mine 4k cheaper than new price.
