I bought my car brand new in 2008 at the end of February. I washed it the week before last.

Actually, I didn't wash it at all. One of the lads at work took my keys and washed it for me:o.
:naughty: No wonder you have an embarrased smilie :rotfl:

I hope you are joining me & Nicky tomorrow in a car washing session? :j

Lots of questions about the two bucket method (also referred to as 2BM), this should help:

I use the two bucket method. Due to time restraints, this week I've been using just a hose pipe to get rid of accumulated salt. It was clean this morning. I subsequently did two 30 mile journeys on the motorway and now it's covered in salt again

The last time I bought them I got 2 packs of 4 from Costco with a pack of microfibre clothes (24) for drying / polishing / waxing. 3 years later I'm just sbout to start the 2nd pack of wash mitts but am still using the old ones for wheels and other "dirty" bits. I've still got about 5 or 6 of the microfibre clothes that haven't been used yet.

Beware of "detailing world" - it took me 5 hours to clean my wife's car last week but one of her colleagues did ask where she had had it "professionaly" cleaned :D

Asda sells noodle type mitts made of synthetic fibres for a couple of quid which are a good alternative.

I washed mine twice this week Monday and Saturday, but its usually once a week. I do a pre wash with hose to loosen dirt and remove any grit . I wash with slightly warm water and good quality car shampoo like Mers and autoglymn with a sponge or sheepskin glove. Dry with a large micro fibre cloth and every few months wax with Autoglymn. I am getting into detailing more now and will move onto two bucket system or perhaps pressure washer and foam.

As my job is a private hire driver (generally a posh minicab where I drive a - w211 (google it) and I wear a suit, and I do mostly corporate and TV work), my car usually gets washed and cleaned in and out almost every day.

The rear mats are often shaked and dusted down after every client, and the door sills and shuts are continually cleaned of road dirt as well, as people climbing in the back would not to get there suits/dresses dirty, especially if I do a wedding, having the back of the bride's dress covered in grime is a big no-no.

Even in my previous job as a courier I always washed my van weekly. Impression counts when dropping off packages at a customer's premises, as you're presenting an image on behalf of the sender of the package.

Though my reasons are purely work-related. (though my motorbike is usually kept clean as well)
  • Thanks for the link Crabman, thats helpful. I use a hosepipe and soft brush to get the thickest of the grime off then a mitt to wash. In the winter its hard to motivate myself to make a proper job of it because the next day I will be back to square one again. I will re-wax it in the spring though.

Being serious its cleaning the inside I really hate. Living in the country its hard to keep this clean too. Whats the best thing to clean the interior plastics, especially the bits where the kids put their feet as they get in and out?
