Every time she's been off-road (usually 'cos the mud sends the wheels off-balance) :D

Seriously - whenever I can. I rarely have a free weekend with decent weather to do it properly. It's worth it when done though - big and black with plenty of chrome :)
    Sounds lovely.:)

Mine is black as well, I'm wondering if that is why it seems to be getting dirty quick?

  • Blimey, none of you lot live near me. Our access to the outside world is 4 miles down a very minor country road which is no better than a farm track in places. People pull onto the verge to pass each other which in addition to the farm traffic means that from October to March the whole road is a mudbath. I really should wash the car twice a week to keep it anything like clean. Every time you open the boot you get your hands covered in grime and the kids cant get in and out without brushing against it and getting filthy.

Mmm, you might have guessed that you touch a bit of a raw nerve here. Twice a year? I wish.

Oh and I use the four bucket method in case you were wondering. It takes that many to get it clean.

Will someone please tell me what the 2/4 bucket method is.:o

I'm guessing 1-2 buckets wash, and again to rinse?

But what with? What cloths/detergents do you use? To not spoil the paintwork?

  • I just bought a new car & I was very guilty of leaving my old car up to 6 weeks sometimes without washing it.:o

Is there a recommended time you should wash it, like there is with trye pressures etc?

Also what is the best way to wash it? Car wash or by hand as examples.

I wash mine at least once a week with a new magic tree each time, its down to everybodys prefrence how often they do it. I enjoy getting in the car when its clean and smelling nice, and i tend to do it myself why waste good money down the car wash when a bit of elbow grease will get your nice new wheels gleaming just the same:)

    It depends.

If I'm doing a lot of motorway driving I wash it every one-two weeks when I can't see out of the windows. It's a bit worrying to be on the motorway and realise it's not fog but dirty windows.

Though recently I washed it because closing the boot was giving me black hands.

In winter I use a hand car wash as there are loads where I live. In summer I wash it my self using 4 buckets. Though with my old car I could manage three bucket as it wasn't as high.

I use car shampoo which has wax added to it. I have a bog standard medium sized family car so am not too fussy about the paintwork particularly as people like scrapping cars in car parks in cities.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
