Welcome Annie :hello:
There are a number of challenges you might want to join in with - 5lb a month challenge, a distance challenge (Eurovision) and a team challenge each month. This month is based on the number of siblings you have. Fredsnail organises and keeps track of the challenges, so if you decide you want to take part in any just pm her your starting weight and then post your excercise and weight loss on her each week. I am sure Fred will give you more informmaton.
A 1lb loss for me this week Fred. No exercise to add as we have had OFSTED in work so I have been mad busy.
I have started to buy myself the new holiday clothes I promised myself - a size 16 rather than my usual 20 / 22 :T Some feel a little snug - but still 5 weeks to go so hopefully will lose a bit more.
One thing I have noticed with all of the exercise is that I am beginning to change shape even when th weight stays the same - starting to get my waist back (now where has that been hiding all of these years)
Really want to 'up my game' this month - starting tonight with Cardio Kick, going to try really hard to do some exercise 6 days a week.
Margaret Clare - I know what you mean, as soon as I start eating bread the weight starts creeping back. I don't even miss it really and never buy it now, but will have a sandwich when visiting or on a buffet.
Thanks for all of the info posted about SW - still toying with the idea of having a go, but then talk myself out of it saying I should just learn to eat healthily.
Good luck with the weight loss this week everyone.0 -
Regards to the slimming world queries I have some links that may help people. Found these whilst browsing the web before I started and they gave me a very good idea of what to expect.
Free and Superfree foods list

Healthy Extras

Syns List
http://online.slimmingworld.com/downloads/SynsUKSWOnline2010.pdf
They are mostly based on Extra Easy but does have some info about green and original too. It would be enough to get you started (i am sure it is identical info to the booklet in my starter pack).
Hope the links are of use to someone and that everyone does better than I have this week
Thank you so much for that Lissaria! :j I'd found the first two, but the syns list will be very handy
I'm very confused now though in regards to fruit! On the fresh and frozen fruit section it lists things like apples and bananas as syns and also free. The bananas, for example, are 1.5 syns on all plans when pureed or stewed, 4 syns on every plan for 'average each', but free for 'raw whole'. I understand why they're sinned when you cook/puree them, but can't really understand the other two values. Especially why they are marked as free on red days, if you're not supposed to have fruit on red days?sarymclary wrote: »Baked beans are only free on Green days or on Extra Easy. If you have them on a red day, they will be 5 syns per 100g - really not worth it! Just have some veggies instead.
If it's bread, it's more than likely going to be syned unless you work it into your HeB's, even on extra easy. Bread is syned on red & green days. 3.5 syns for a small wholemeal pitta. Tortillas, don't even go there, the size you get in the s/mkt works out at about 11 syns on all plans! Found that one out to our cost. Bread has little, if no real nutritional value for us, so it's not necessary, makes our insulin levels spike, creates cravings, bloats us, and makes us gain weight, that's why it's not encouraged. If you've already done a low carb diet, you're hopefully not going to miss it too much. I was a bread addict, and just had to go cold turkey and not have it. Eventually I reintroduced the Weight Watchers or Nimble loaves, and allowed myself a couple of slices as my HeB on EE days.
A banana is 4 syns on a red day. Rule of thumb is that if you're doing a red day, most fruit will have some kind of syn value (it's all that natural sugar).
This is where extra easy can make life a whole heap easier if you don't go to the classes, and haven't got all the info readily to hand. I've just seen a picture on facebook a lady has posted on the slimming world page where she's lost 4 stone since Xmas on extra easy and hasn't exercised. The key really is to have lots of superfree, and limit the amount of syns. If you stay within plan, drink plenty of water, you will lose weight. It does work. I did extra easy most of the time, I lost 6.5lb on my first week, and 3lb the following week, so it's not hard to do.
There are often deals for joining up, sometimes not having to pay the joining fee, but for a tenner, you'll get all your joining pack info/books, and just have to sit through the first meeting, but that can be useful for asking questions, or just listening to other's experiences. The happy clapping can get a bit cringe-worthy, but it's a company policy of SW to do it, and everyone just does it regardless. It might be easier to do that than pay through the nose for a potentially out of date book on ebay (even my books after a year will be somewhat out of date). Things like some pitta breads used to be free on EE, but were going to be syned.
Thanks for this :j Luckily I was on a green day yesterday so the beans were OK. I'm really not fussed about bread (I've lived without it for a long time!), but do love my wholemeal pittas. 3.5 syns isn't too much though so I may treat myself when I'm having a good day. I'm aiming for as few syns as possible, definitely no more than 10 a day.
I'm very surprised about the tortillas, it seems like it's really easy to slip up on SW, and there doesn't seem to be much logic to their syn values. Extra easy is looking like a good option right now!!!I think I'll give red/green a few days and see how I take to it, but may switch to EE and just limit my syns more, maybe 5 a day. It will probably be a lot easier when my directory comes through and I can search out some 'safe foods', lol.

It's -1.8lbs for me this week - thanks, Fred.
I'm quite pleased with that as the scale hasn't really been moving much for the last couple of months. I fully expect it to be a sts or small gain next week though, as that's how the pattern seems to be going.
I have signed up to do the Race for Life this year. My granda was recently diagnosed with lymphoma, and I though that the Race for Life would be the perfect opportunity to do something for him, whilst also continuing to work on my fitness. So that's in 6 weeks, and I'm only just now able to run again after my injury (which still twinges sometimes), so I'm back on week 2 of couch to 5k. Hopefully I'll be able to run most of the 5k, and only walk a little.
I've also started swimming. I hadn't been swimming in over 12 years, and the first time I went was an absolute disaster - I'd totally forgotten how to swim! I've been four times in total now and I'm beginning to love it again
So exercise atm, I'm doing - 3x week couch to 5k, 3x week weight lifting, 2x week swimming and 1x week zumba. This is working well for me and I'm enjoying it. Everything except the zumba is at my new fancy gym, and one of the weight lifting sessions is with a personal trainer, which I'm really enjoying.
Food is ok, but I'm still really struggling with the urge to emotionally eat.
Hope everyone had a good week! :j0 -

Hi Matryoshka
I haven't ordered it yet - to be honest my feet haven't touched the ground since I got back to the UK. I've got so much on at the moment, I'm too tired to do anything else. Trouble is, most of it isn't quantifiable in WW Activity Points!
Next week should be better - I'll have the funeral out of the way and the manual work in clearing Mum's house will have been done. I'll still have to complete probate, but there's no deadline for doing that. I have lots to keep me busy with my own house, but there's no furniture in it at the moment, so there's plenty of space to leap about in front of the telly!

Hi everyone I have come back :hello:
Well I have been a very Lucky Lady and have been having fun in the Big Apple for my Birthday. It was an amazing feeling to go into any shop and find clothes to fit me, and even find I fitted into designer clothes too. It made all the last few years work worth every sacrifice to feel normal. I have also had some amazing food and drink while I was away, including magnolia bakery cup cakes, and typical american breakfasts of muffins, waffles and french toastunfortunately the Big Apple has landed on my hips, boobs and tummy too
I am not 100% sure how much weight I have put on as I forgot to weigh myself this morning (still a little Jet Lagged and I blame getting older too) So I think I am going to wait a week and weigh in next week when I hope the damage has reduced a little.
So Fred can you add me to this months Eurovision challenge pleaseI have walked about 5km today so can you add that for a start. Also can I join in the 5lb challenge for May too
I got treated to some new running trainers for my birthday so I hope to try them out in the next few days (if it is not raining too hard) And I hope to get back surfing ASAP too which should help shift some pounds too.
Thank you for my Birthday Wishes  I have just been trying to read back as much as I could.
