Fred,
Please put me down for the 5lb challenge, and also I did about 10 miles this weekend in Yorkshire Dales, diet went to pot, but the walking was mainly 'off piste'' through knee high heather etc, so am hoping that helps.
I too will have a go at the Eurovision challenge. does the amount of mileage I cover at work count??
Thanks for all your hard work, with the charts and the challenges.:T

Hey Everyone,
Really looking forward to starting SWI've been reading up about it, but really need the info to be able to start it properly as there's only so much you can find out online. Hopefully it will be here soon as I'd like to start on wed after weigh in so I can have an SW start weight. Might talk to my mum about it as she's a gold member, it was many years ago though.
Fred - Can you please sign me up to the 1 sibling team, the 5 lb a month challenge, and the Eurovision challenge.0 -
Hello
I have never taken part before but would like to join in for May if thats ok. Please could I be put down to follow the Eurovision challenge and the 5ib club please.

Good luck everyone0 -
Fred - I managed to do the challenge! Woo hoo.

Now then Beanie, that's a good loss in anyone's book, and look at how much in total you've lost! You'd have been more disappointed with a 1 1/2 gain
If you lose that each week, you'll beat the 5lb monthly challenge by 1lb, by summer solstice that will be over 1 stone lost. Keep at it, it's working!
Lolly - I don't know how much you know about SW already, but if you want to get straight on it, the basics of the new Extra Easy plan are;
Split your plate into 1/3's . One 1/3 is for lean meat (cut off all visible fat), 1/3 for carbs such as potatoes, rice, pasta, and the last 1/3 is for your veg/salad.
Make sure you have plenty of fruit to keep you filled up, but go for the lower cal/sugar/starch ones, so that's berries, citrus fruits, melon, and don't have too many bananas or avocado's.
You get 1 each of:
a dairy allowance (Healthy extra A which is for example 250ml skimmed milk, 42g low fat cheese
a fibre allowance Healthy extra B which could be 2 slices of wholemeal/wholegrain nimble bread, 1 medium slice of wholemeal, 30g of shreddies/porridge, etc.
You have an allowance of 15 syns per day to use on non-free foods, which can be a couple of kit-kats, or 2 extra slices of bread, your relishes and fats, spreads, sauces, and treats.
The good part of the Extra Easy plan is that you can have something like a spaghetti bolognese without having to count what you're having (provided there's plenty enough veggies in your ragu). Or have a stew with spuds, and it's all 'free' food. A roast dinner could be practically syn-free (probably only counted the gravy as 2 syns maximum).
There are the Red (meat)/Green (vegetarian) days you can do, where you get 2 each of a HeA and HeB, but you are then restricted on your carbs on a red day, and meat on a green day. You'd need a basic SW book to give you better info on what is free within those plans, as some veggies high in natural sugars aren't free on red days (like peas). I used to mix the days up sometimes for variety and on a green day I'd look forward to a big jacket spud, with cheese and a yummy side salad and baked beans, or a cheese omlette with the same side. It was hard to believe I was on a diet after meals like that.
If you aren't going to go to a class, then you might benefit from joining the online group for a month, get all the information and syn values you need that way, then just lapse the membership. Buying a couple of Slimming World magazines might be good for giving you recipe ideas too.
There is a dedicated SW thread over on the Health & Beauty board of MSE, and also a 'sticky' SW recipes thread for lots of ideas (I believe you'll find the Dyno Rod soup over there that I swore by for an effective loss).
Slimming World is less about weighing your food, and more about training yourself to eat healthily. Go by a basic principle of high sugar, high fat, lots of carbs are going to keep me fat, and eating plenty of healthy veg, lean meat and fish and I'm going to get slim. If you can resist the stuff that has low nutritional value, but that we crave, and fill up on the good food, you'll feel better anyway.
Exercising isn't essential for good loss, but definitely helps. You should never be hungry doing SW. If you are, you're making the wrong choices food-wise, and using up syns on foods of little, if no nutritional value.
Sorry for the long post, but hope that helps. If you need any info, just ask. I'm not doing SW at the mo, but only stopped a few months ago, and am intending to start back on it again in a few month's time. I still have my books to refer to.One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
Beanie - Thats great to lose that in a week! I don't think my body would ever allow it!!0

It's a 2 lb gain for me this week
. Hopefully it will only be water weight or something as I've not done too badly this week (despite being stuck in 'diet limbo', lol).
I'm weighing in a day early today as it's the first of the month, and I'm starting a 'lose a stone in a month' (, lol) challenge on another thread. I'm also attempting to start SW today.
For breakfast I had 30g honey ready brek with an apple - I'd read that the ready brek and the milk could be counted as my heB and heA, but have since read that it's 5 syns!. Not impressed considering it's (minus the milk) only 113 cals!!! I've got a lot to learn. I've now just had a muller light and a banana. I think I can muddle through today, but I really want to be able to have a good read through everything.
Sary - thank you so much for the info :A I managed to download a sheet with the main superfree and free foods, and have read a lot on the minimins site, but I didn't know the quantities of the healthy extras and what else counts as free. I'm planning on doing a mix of red and green days rather than EE as I've heard that weight loss is slower on EE... and after low carb I think either will be extra easy for me, lol!
I've heard that baked beans are free - is that on both days, and is that all brands? I'm on a green day today and was hoping to have a jacket potato with beans and salad for lunch, and a batchelor's pasta n sauce with something for tea (can't believe they're a free food!!!). Also, what can you eat in the way of bread, pittas, wraps, etc on a green day? I'm assuming that they won't really be allowed on red.
I was considering signing up online but they only seem to offer 3 month memberships - between £60 and £100! I've seen a couple of books that would be handy so think I'll buy them on ebay/amazon and see how I go on. I might also look out for the SW magazine in the mean time, which might give me a few ideas0 -
looy~It might work out cheaper for you to join SW for a week & get all the bumf and a reduced price magazine.
