Hi all
Having a really busy week - but thankfully I lost the 2lbs I put on last week. Onwards and downwards, hopefully next week I'll have got to where I wanted to be last week.
Hope everyone's doing alright.

looy~It might work out cheaper for you to join SW for a week & get all the bumf and a reduced price magazine.
Sary~What a really really useful summary~thank you.
Thanks BeanieI did look into doing that as ebay prices are crazy, but I'd have to pay a joining fee and maybe the weekly fee, then the cost of the books. I've been looking at auctions on ebay for the last couple of days and managed to get the food directory for under £10 today
(usually goes for much more on ebay!) - am I right in thinking that that's all I really need? Apparently it lists over 25,000 foods!
Fingers crossed it comes quicker than my info - still waiting for it, paid last tues! Apparently they posted thurs, but it doesn't look likely as Royal Mail never usually takes that long.0 -
I just have the basic books I got when I joined.

Ooh that's not bad then, I wasn't sure if you'd have to pay the joining fee and then a weekly fee on top of that.0

Regards to the slimming world queries I have some links that may help people. Found these whilst browsing the web before I started and they gave me a very good idea of what to expect.

Healthy Extras

Syns List

They are mostly based on Extra Easy but does have some info about green and original too. It would be enough to get you started (i am sure it is identical info to the booklet in my starter pack).
Hope the links are of use to someone and that everyone does better than I have this week0 -
Weight is not good. I lost about 5 kg while doing Dukan, but eventually it got to me not being able to have even one slice of wholemeal bread or any fruit at all. In December I thought I should be able to continue losing weight with just 'healthy eating' - after all, that's what Dr Christian Jesson advocates on 'Supersize vs Superskinny'. So, here's the result:
1st Jan: 66.4 kg
1st Feb: 67.0 kg
1st Mar: 67.2 kg
1st Apr: 67.8 kg
1st May: 68.1 kg
Today: 68.2 kg
The lowest I got to was 65.9 kg mid-December. That was 10 stone 5 /14 pounds. I never got to my 'target weight' of 60 kg.
So I'm back to eating oat-bran porridge for breakfast, haven't had any bread at all for a couple of days, going to do a chicken casserole for lunch, need to get some green veg and salads. It would be soooo easy to say 'oh I can't lose weight at my age...' and just sit back scoffing biscuits (which I don't even like any more).

I've heard that baked beans are free - is that on both days, and is that all brands? I'm on a green day today and was hoping to have a jacket potato with beans and salad for lunch, and a batchelor's pasta n sauce with something for tea (can't believe they're a free food!!!). Also, what can you eat in the way of bread, pittas, wraps, etc on a green day? I'm assuming that they won't really be allowed on red.
I was considering signing up online but they only seem to offer 3 month memberships - between £60 and £100! I've seen a couple of books that would be handy so think I'll buy them on ebay/amazon and see how I go on. I might also look out for the SW magazine in the mean time, which might give me a few ideas
Baked beans are only free on Green days or on Extra Easy. If you have them on a red day, they will be 5 syns per 100g - really not worth it! Just have some veggies instead.
If it's bread, it's more than likely going to be syned unless you work it into your HeB's, even on extra easy. Bread is syned on red & green days. 3.5 syns for a small wholemeal pitta. Tortillas, don't even go there, the size you get in the s/mkt works out at about 11 syns on all plans! Found that one out to our cost. Bread has little, if no real nutritional value for us, so it's not necessary, makes our insulin levels spike, creates cravings, bloats us, and makes us gain weight, that's why it's not encouraged. If you've already done a low carb diet, you're hopefully not going to miss it too much. I was a bread addict, and just had to go cold turkey and not have it. Eventually I reintroduced the Weight Watchers or Nimble loaves, and allowed myself a couple of slices as my HeB on EE days.
A banana is 4 syns on a red day. Rule of thumb is that if you're doing a red day, most fruit will have some kind of syn value (it's all that natural sugar).
This is where extra easy can make life a whole heap easier if you don't go to the classes, and haven't got all the info readily to hand. I've just seen a picture on facebook a lady has posted on the slimming world page where she's lost 4 stone since Xmas on extra easy and hasn't exercised. The key really is to have lots of superfree, and limit the amount of syns. If you stay within plan, drink plenty of water, you will lose weight. It does work. I did extra easy most of the time, I lost 6.5lb on my first week, and 3lb the following week, so it's not hard to do.
There are often deals for joining up, sometimes not having to pay the joining fee, but for a tenner, you'll get all your joining pack info/books, and just have to sit through the first meeting, but that can be useful for asking questions, or just listening to other's experiences. The happy clapping can get a bit cringe-worthy, but it's a company policy of SW to do it, and everyone just does it regardless. It might be easier to do that than pay through the nose for a potentially out of date book on ebay (even my books after a year will be somewhat out of date). Things like some pitta breads used to be free on EE, but were going to be syned. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Only -1lb off for me this week. Not quite sure why my losses have slowed down so much. Am going to try to mix my meals up a bit this week, and down lots more water to see if that helps things. Failing that, I will come 'off plan' for a couple of weeks, and do something similar to SW red days, limiting my carbs, and having lots of lean meat and veg to see if I just need to trigger my body into losing again?
Hope everyone else has better results than me!One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
