Matryoshka, how many grams of porridge oats are you having in that big bowl?!! I'd need a bucket size to use that much sugar. Have you seen Xylitol, which has a much lower GI than sugar, but looks/tastes like sugar? Available in supermarkets, it might be better alternative, and it's kinder to your teeth than the amount you use...

did you really mean tablespoons, because that would be 2.5oz or about 75g of sugar, which puts you closer to 300cals just for your sugar, and at almost 100% of your recommended daily allowance of sugar too.
With that much sugar in it, your porridge is actually looking a rather unhealthy option. 100g of Frosties would actually have 60% less sugar!
Maureen, hello, and welcome to the gang. Congratulations on being mother of the bride.
As a basic rule of thumb, and not following any specific diet plan, a woman generally needs between 1500-2000 calories per day. Most diet plans seem to work around the 1500-ish mark.
If you stick to lean meat and fish, cut down on refined starchy foods, like bread, cereals, and have wholewheat/wholegrains like oats, weetabix, shreddies, wholemeal bread, but also keep these limited to about 30% of your daily food intake.
There's no reason for you to have to go hungry, but if you can fill up, and bulk out meals with as much fruit and veg (avoiding the higher carb or starchy ones, like bananas, avocado, potatoes, peas, sweetcorn, etc), and try to have lots of leafy green salad and veg, berries, and cook them healthily.
If you struggle to count calories, there are great free online resources such as myfitnesspal which also has a phone app.
If you want the structure of a set diet plan, then why not try the free 7-day plan on the slimmingworld.com site. They don't count anything foodwise that's healthy, they only specify you have to have a certain amount of dairy and fibre each day (you have to count in things that are less healthy, like bread, sugary, high fat foods, which makes sense).
I hope that helps, and if you need any more help, there's always someone popping their head round the door here, who'd be happy to try.One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Yeah, tablespoonsI don't weigh the porridge tbh. I simply pour it into the saucepan and stir over a low heat until ready. It'll probably be about 3 sachets of those little porridge sachets
I switched to honey this morning and it was OK except it made my porridge a bit runny so I'll have to make it a bit thick, then add the honey and milk, then the consistency should be about rightSECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

Seriously thinking about going to Slimming World on Monday.
I got my old books out yesterday - wondering whether to give it a go as I seem to just be maintaining my weight at the moment. Wanted to lose at least another stone before my hols in June - at this rate it is not going to happen.
For those of you that do SW - do you mostly do red days / green days or do you do the Extra Easy ???0 -
Jess, I'm not doing SW at the mo, but it's my plan to go onto it in a few week's time. When I do it, I mainly do Extra Easy, mainly because that fits in with family meals, and I don't have to think too much about limiting amount of veg/meat in one meal, so I can have cottage pie, bolognese, stews with spuds and not worry about them. So long as 1/3 of your meal is veg/fruit, you're doing the plan.
When I have a hankering for some cheese, then I'll have a green day, and have a big baked spud with cheese & beans.
If I have a day where I want to have cereal and then some bread later, I'll have a red or green day, so I can get my 2 Heb/a's.
Work out some meal plans, and see what suits you best. It's just nice that you can mix things up a bit with SW, whilst getting good sized meals and balanced nutrition.
Beanie, why not give it a whirl? Half price membership available if you join before 26th May. I liked that I could use the online resources of SW too while I was a member.
Not eaten much the past couple of days as I've just been so busy, and not sleeping too well, so I'm a bit headachy, which makes me not feel keen on eating either, so it's a bit of a vicious circle. Hoping I sleep better tonight, so back into the swing of things tomorrow. On the plus side, I don't really feel that hungry either.
:easter: everyone, and try to avoid eating too many eggs. :icotbaske:easter_ba:EasterBun:easter_os (we don't get to use those smilies much, so I thought I'd use them all!)One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Have a great Easter and good luck on Monday Beanie:T:T
Have some calorie free chocs everyone :icotbaske:easter_ba:EasterBun (and I hope we don't see any more of this fellow until next winter :snow_laug)0 -
Have a Happy Easter everyone. :EasterBun
This smiley really does make me smile as it really is 'me'. As soon as the chocolate is in the house I 'have' to eat it. No eating the odd square here and there, I 'have' to eat it and get it out of the wayOh dear, no self control!!!
Thanks for the SW advice Sarymclary, think I will give Extra Easy a try first and see if I lose any weight.
As the gym is closed over Easter I am going to start 30 Day Shred. I have a wedding in May (and my dress is feeling a wee bit tight, even though I made it and it is supposed to fit perfectly:o) Hopefully 'the shred' will help me get into it.0 -
Hiya
Loving the Easter smilies - it's a chocolate free zone here apart from those! Happy Easter everyone.
It's day three of my campaign to lose 5lbs by 18th April, and I've been taking Sary's advice and trying to eat lots of vegetables. I've planned a menu for this week and left out pasta and rice meals in favour of meals that contain lean meat and fish so that I can pile up the plate with veg.
Yesterday I had porridge for breakfast, beans on toast for lunch, salmon, broccoli, carrots, and green beans for dinner, and my only snacks consisted of fruit. Today I'm going to slow cook some lean stewing steak with mushrooms, leeks and onions, and have it with cauliflower, carrots and broccoli. I'll probably have a small portion of mashed potato too. Lunch will be a salad wrap, and I've just had toast with light cheese spread and strawberries. Snacks will be fruit again.
Beanie - I did SW and lost 7 stone in 18 months so I can definitely recommend it. Sometimes it works to do something completely different because you really have to focus on the new plan. I went off it when they started introducing all kinds of new ideas, but success express seems to work well judging by Lissarria's results so far.
Have a lovely weekend.
