1200 does seem to be the minimum it allows and you get told off as you've discovered if you don't eat that much.0

Where is Eric when we need him? Eric would probably go off on one for pages on answering this question.
Me, I have a more scientific background so let me quote the First Law of Thermodynamics:
"In a thermodynamic process, the increment in the internal energy of a system is equal to the difference between the increment of heat accumulated by the system and the increment of work done by it"
To translate to something relevant lets convert some of the variables to something more quantifiable:
1. The body is a thermodynamic process, we burn food to get energy.
2. The food we do not burn we store as fat, which translates nicely to "internal energy" as fat is our internal energy store.
3. Food is our external energy source, it is accumulated when we eat (for me mainly in the evening in front of the telly)
4. Work translates to everything we do, from BMR (sitting doing nothing) to Marathon running. (apparently with normally activity levels the biggest user of energy in the body is the brain)
So the universally accepted first law translates to:
Our body gains / loses weight based on the difference between the energy we get from our food and the energy we use.
This I personally believe is undeniably true, however, where I think most of the arguments come in is in the way we measure the energy in food i.e is one calorie the same as another.
The way I worked it when I was actively losing weight was to eat the same as I did before only less, if at the end of the day one food stuff has more impact on weight than another if you reduce all things equally the results will be in line with the above. Also based on the above equation exercising more, increasing NEAT (Non-exercise activity thermogenesis) see wikipedia, bypasses the calorie issue altogether.
Short answer, no.

Thanks for your scientific analysis, it makes interesting reading. I'm only quoting the point above to say that Slimming World believe that some foods have the power to make you lose more weight than others. They call them speed foods, and the ones I remember are melon, strawberries, and Scanbran - a high-fibre crispbread that is akin to eating a doormat.Short answer, no.
This made me laugh out loud for real! :rotfl:

Only another half a wee pound this week.
I am a tad dispirited ~ all that effort for a measly 1/2 lb.
I really cant afford to keep going to the blipping class anymore either.
