Welcome Fabulass, I am very interested in the app you are using? it sounds very usefull!
Hi Lissarria, thanks for the welcome, Ive actually learned lots reading everything here already:)
Its a free app called myfitnesspal, its easy to use, tho it took me about ten attempts to find a user name that hadnt been taken already...that was sooooo frustrating!!
I find it quicker to track now on this rather than my ole notepad, you just search items and if its things you eat often its easier to find them thereafter...eg. I tend to eat the same brekkie most days.
I went to Mister Ts shopping last night and scanned the barcodes using the app before I bought anything lol....cos it just appears right on your screen (my eyesight's not so great for reading the wee nutrition tables they print on food stuff).
The other thing I like is after you finish logging for the day, it gives you a message...mine last night was 'if every day was like today you will have lost your first stone in 5 weeks'....so I liked that, cos Id had a good day, I hadnt been hungry at all, so I thought yeah...I CAN have more days like this one!
Oh, it also keeps a running tally of your nutrients etc...so too much sodium, cholesterol and not enough vitamins for me so farThere is also a water counter...obv no cals to add, but I log it each time and I feel its encouraging me to drink more.
The only thing I felt was wrong was the amount of calories it was allowing me per day, (an unrealistic 1200, Im way too big for that), I dont know if I logged my details in wrong in the first instance, but I felt it was too low, so I used the calculator found on the first page on here to work it out properly and I just edited it on the app, so it was no problem.
If this doesnt work for me I'll need to go back to Weight Watchers, and tho I find it easy to follow, I dont really have the money for the classes (esp as hubby will want to come too) so Im hoping this will give me the encouragement to keep going.
Let us know if you give it a whirl
so please press my :T thanks :Tbutton x

Hey fabulass. I might give it a try, I am doing slimming world at the moment but this sounds really handy to keep track of what i am eating.
I couldn't really afford slimming world but found out from my sister in law that you can get a referal from your GP. I think you need a BMI over 30 and you need to let them know how you are doing and answer a few questions for them periodically but i thought it was well worth a try. I was given the option of weight watchers or Slimming World and once i chose they sent me a voucher for 12 weeks free. Possiblity of them extending it though I'm unsure of the criteria but the idea is that even if they dont after 12 weeks you know how the plan works and you can continue doing it yourself at home without going to group or you can pay for yourself. I didnt know the GP did such a thing but i am so glad they do.0 -

I also love myfitnesspal app I downloaded on my phone too - once you get used to it you can save meals that you have regularly so it's faster to track your food. (I love the barcode scanner too - but it's a bit hit and miss with any fresh bakery products - I scanned a breadroll once and it came up with soya milk, but that is a rarity :j)
Another vote here for heart monitors when exercising too - I wore mine all day when I first got it so I had a rough idea of how many calories I was burning on a normal non exercising day.
Does anyone have any preference or ideas for challenges for next month?0 -
It would have been 1lb loss for me today, but I got new scales this week (the Omron ones) and they weigh me 1lb heavier than my old scales  so STS for me this week - thanks, Fred.
Lissarria - Don't be embarrassed! When I first started I had 10 stone to lose, and I've never even been pregnant! But I only have a little over 2 stone left to go, one year on. You're doing something about it, and from what I can see you're doing really well - you should be very proud
Myfitnesspal is my current obsession - I was meant to only be doing it for a month, but as of yesterday I've logged 55 days in a row! It's great, so easy to use and definitely encourages me to exercise so I can eat more :rotfl:
I started at the gym about a week and a half ago lifting heavy weights for about 45 mins, then 20 mins cardio - been going well so far - I've lost an inch each off my waist, hips and the no man's land bit inbetween!0 -
Hi
Well done to everybody who has been making progress or just hanging on in there..
Today I've lost 1 of the 2lbs I put on last week so now 13st 3lbs (again:o).
I also did my walk/swim for 3 km yesterday and a walk to town and back today for 2 km. So another 5 km please Fred but I'm afraid I've lost track of my exercise.
Finally I've realised I have to stop throwing the diet out of the window everytime an 'occasion' comes up. Recently we've had St Patricks day, Mothers day, OH's birthday and another get together for OH's birthday last Sunday.
I know you can't be too strict but I think I'm a fairly all or nothing type of dieter and I've realised that this shilly-shallying is slowly demoralising me. So I think it's crunch time and I need to make a proper commitment for as long as it takes but I find this bit scary!
So I'll try and make this the last re-start and stop wasting everybodys time!
Have a good week!August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -
1/4 lb gain for me this week. I would blame muscle, but my new super duper scales tell me it is definately fatFinally I've realised I have to stop throwing the diet out of the window everytime an 'occasion' comes up. Franby, I know what you mean. My mentality is that if it is an occasional celebration then it doesn't matter - unfortunately the scales tell me otherwise.
Lolly - thanks for the tip about the heart rate monitor. May treat myself.
Good luck with the weight loss everyone.

Its a free app called myfitnesspal
I decided to join and uploaded my workout and food eaten for today. It's now showing remaining calories for today: 1,671cals.
Now, what happens if I don't finish these? I can't even gorge on junk as I've given these up for lent :rotfl:SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

Hi all
Fred - STS for me this week.
I'm not really surprised - last week was a nightmare, no time for tracking, lots of rubbish food and not enough exercise. Back on track this week and hoping for a better result on Monday.
Unfortunately lots of my exercise opportunities are coming to an end this week - last linedancing session tomorrow, last aquarobics on Friday, and the indoor pool closes on Saturday. The outdoor pool will be open, but it's unheated and the sun doesn't have enough power to make a difference just yet!
Lissarria - I've been in the same situation myself so don't feel embarassed, you're doing something about it, and doing very well. Stay focussed and you'll soon be where you want to be.Thanks for the tip about getting slimming classes on prescrption too, I'll ask about that when I get back to the UK.
Fabulass - hi and welcome. Weightwatchers also do an app, I don't know if you have to subscribe to it, but it's quite popular with people in the WW community.
Beanie - imagine half a pound of butter - now imagine your body with that much less fat on it!You did better than me this week.
Catch you all later.
