Ooh exciting! Have you been to Vegas before?

You should def def def do SF!! (and of course the Grand Canyon although I was so unimpressed with it) and drive through Death Valley... oooh and Napa and Santa Cruz and you could go to Yosemite... (can you tell this is my absolute favourite place in the world?!)

I have been before, October 2010, and it was amazing! I wanted to go with OH to the US as my dad's family is from Florida and I was born in Dallas. Las Vegas is the only place he was interesting in going, so that's where we ended up!

We joking said before we went that we would change our facebook statuses to 'married' while out there, but as we were walking past a chapel he said 'shall we just do it?' This is the guy who never said he would get married, it's just a piece of paper etc etc :rotfl:

We decided not to though as his parents weren't with us, but agreed that when we do marry, it would be in Vegas. So that has been the plan all along after he proposed last year on my birthday! (Bit of a sore point as his parents are now saying they can't afford it, although they had about 6 months from proposal to booking to package to voice any concerns    )

I'll take your recommendation of SF on board, I'd love to go there, wanted to go during our last visit but didn't have the time in the end. OH is quite happy to stay put for 2 weeks but I am definitely going to drag him somewhere else for a bit!

When I get my way :rotfl: I'll need your recommendations for places to stay and stuff too!

I totally couldn't do Vegas for 3 weeks....about 4 days is my maximum!* but everyone's different :) Do you know where you're staying in Vegas? Oh I'm so jealous! We're doing a NY/Toronto/Niagara/Finger Lakes/Boston road trip this summer and I do like that side of the US too but my heart is over in California...I am desperate to go back and go to Vegas one more time before having a baby!

*just wanted to add I do absolutely adore Vegas but sort of run out of things to do after a few days! mind you a honeymoon might be different...spend the morning in bed, the afternoon by the pool and the evening in nice restaurants/bars...hmm I could probably manage that for a bit longer than 4 days!

I think that plan sound about right :D maybe squeeze in a bit of poker/blackjack along the line, yay! Now we're getting a bit closer I am getting so excited!!!

Your road trip sounds amazing too though, I love the US and haven't really been to the east coast before.

We don't know where we're staying yet, looking for good deals before we commit. Althought the wedding night and the night after are included in the package so we'll be at the Bellagio for those two nights. My parents are thinking about renting somewhere so I (or maybe we) might stay with them.
After we're thinking about staying somewhere cheaper for a week and then somewhere a bit more swish for the last week... Of course it depends on cost, we might get an amazing deal and be able to stay somewhere really posh for the whole time! Where do you like staying? On any budget, am open to ideas and personal recommendations are always good :D

I've only ever stayed right on the Strip so I can't comment on things that are a bit further afield...last time we stayed at the Aria, which was really lovely - quite posh! It was also a bit less busy than some of the others but still right in the middle of things. It does still have a casino though which I always find so weird...walking to get a coffee first thing in the morning and passing people glued to slot machines who are still up from the night before! I have stayed at New York New York and that was nice too but very hectic and busy. Umm Paris is quite nice, not stayed there but a friend did and I saw their room. I've also stayed at MGM Grand which is nothing special but not very expensive. Venice is nice. I'm trying to think of the name of the one my cousin and his wife stayed in last time we were there, they had the most amazing pool with a huge lazy river...but I can't remember which hotel it was. It was pretty near us in the Aria though and on that side of the Strip..it will come to me! I do love Vegas, last summer we were doing a Cali road trip and drove to Vegas from SF, we were meant to be in Vegas for 2 nights and then drive to Yosemite for 2 nights, but after drinking a few bottles of wine on our first afternoon in Vegas we marched up to the front desk and extended our stay, oops! Did have a great time but then regretted only having 1 night in Yosemite. I've done the same sort of road trip quite a few times but am absolutely desperate to do it once more before having kids!!

Hotels in Vegas tend to be pretty reasonably priced as they expect to make money in the casino and on the food and drink! so you should be able to get a good deal :) But but for my sake..pleeeeease...if you're in that part of the world...explore a bit...don't spend 3 weeks in Vegas! Tell your OH some crazy girl on the internet said you HAVE TO! :)

Sorry, that was a tad rude of me! Of course you must do whatever you want on your honeymoon and you will have an amazing time! :D I'm just jealous... :)

Haha don't worry Daisie, you're not rude! Thanks for the suggestions :) and I'm sure I'll need more info the closer we get!

Am a bit peed off/stressed cause my sister is throwing a hissy fit over the dress I bought :(

I don't really know what to do to be honest, I'm picking her up a different size today as the one we have is too big, so hopefully that makes a difference. I just want her to be accepting I suppose, but I think I'm just going to ignore it for a while, don't want to stress over it! :rotfl::rotfl:

Anyway, elsewhere I've been quite organised! I've ordered samples for the envelopes to go with my Vistprint invitations, samples for the bridesmaids clutch bags I'm going to get and of course done another big Vistaprint order.

Not sure if I'll send these but going to get them as they are free :) Am not sure of the wording, what do you folks think? Is there a better way that I can say we're getting married abroad and the reception is afterwards at home that doesn't sound like we've excluded people :rotfl:(We aren't, we just want it to be small!)

    th_Invitationsafe.jpg

Oversized postcard invitation - had to compromise with Mum as she was insisting these were going to be engraved, very plain and traditional (not to mention expensive!) I decided to pick my battles so this is not as exciting as I'd like but I'm still happy with it. She doesn't know it yet but diamantes will be stuck to them :P

    th_RSVPcard.jpg

RSVP card, with address on the back

I've done a directions card with a map on one side and directions on the other. I'm going to cut the top off it so it sits in the pocket below the RSVP :)

I'm going to have to trim the oversize postcards to fit a 7x5 pocketfold, so it will be fiddly but am strangely looking forward to it.

I also went to see the venue on Saturday all set up for a wedding. I've an awful feeling I'm going to be shelling out for chair covers /sigh. The chairs aren't awful but I don't think I'd be able to do much to them otherwise and they would ruin the effect! The venue looked stunning though, am getting as excited about the reception as I am about the wedding!

    Sorry for the massive essay!

What progress have you all been making? Don't forget, 9 and a half months to go!

  • Hey April people!

I'm much closer to being able to confirm myself as a proper April person - the church got back to me and agreed to sign me up based on attendance! On 1st July, when I attend again, we can firm up dates! :j

In other news, I'm getting addicted to Preloved - I've put in interests on 2 wedding dresses now! Still, even with both it would be £1k cheaper than the one from the bridal shop, but even so...

I'm also getting into Pinterest, but it's making me even more indecisive. :rotfl:

Trying to be MSE though - signed up for 2 wedding lists in order to get free gifts from department stores, and have an appointment to look at rings, where I'll get 3 free bridesmaids necklaces!

Yay lil miss, that's good news!

Last week we went to an open evening at our venue and saw it all done up for weddings, it looked amazing. When we looked round it before booking, it was a Sunday morning and they were clearing up after a wedding the night before so we didn't see it at its best, but last week it looked amazing! I do worry that we are going to end up shelling out for things like special lights, dance floor, fairly light backdrop etc...we said we wouldn't but it all looked so amazing that we want it now!

Went to Hobbycraft with my mum on Saturday afternoon and bought stuff for our invitations. We made a prototype and I'm really happy with it. I think they're going to be great :) saving us looooooooads of money too! Which we will then blow on random lights and things....lol...

I am getting antsy about bm dresses, want to get them sorted but can't until OH's daughter comes down so she can try on...so frustrating, I can see myself coming to blows with OH about this ...but I won't get started on that!

Apart from that, we're just ticking along nicely! Getting quite excited about my dress coming into the shop in September, somehow it doesn't feel that far away :D

It's not that far away Daisie!

Like you I'm so excited about doing invitations, just got the email from VP woohoo!

I truely hope you don't come to blows with OH about the BM dresses! Is it that you have different ideas about what she should wear?

I wanted to get mine sorted and now look what's happened! The smaller size I got for sister isn't good enough and now she's refusing to wear either. I've got a couple of weeks before they have to be returned to talk her round to getting the first one altered but I have a terrible feeling an ultimatum will be uttered :(

Yesterday to cheer myself up I bought some photo frames to display the table numbers :) An idea for centre pieces is coming together in my mind :rotfl: Have also decided we NEED a photobooth, oh dear!

Great news about the church lil_miss, have you an idea for a date? I'm also a pinterest addict, can't look on there too often or I get completely carried away!
If you know which dress you want why not post in the find my... thread? The girls on there are great at finding things cheaper.

    xx

  • Wow - this thread was pages back! Where is everyone?

I went back home for some organising and we have a provisional date! Subject to letter of confirmation from church office - 20th April :-)

Went for a look round venues this weekend too - think we've got the flow of the day sorted(ish) now. Just need to confirm things once and for all.

P.S. My pinterest is here http://pinterest.com/jesobelle/ for my fellow pinterest addict!
