April 2013 weddings

Ooh cathy sounds like you've made a lot of progress!
I have the bridesmaids dresses sitting in a wardrobe right now - how exciting! Poor OH's daughter was mortified as we had to go up to a size 18 for her. She is normally a 12 and is NOT fat! The BHS dresses seem to come up tiny, but it's ok. Hers won't need any alterations, the other two need taking up as they are tiny, but I have found a lady to do that.
Basically everything is completely sorted except for the honeymoon, rings and men's suits. Guess what...they're the things OH is responsible for! Lol! But I'm not stressing as we've got loads of time. My dress comes into the shop in September....so excited!
I had a really vivid wedding dream last night. It was lovely
Hope everyone else's planning is going well!0 -
I'm getting slightly worried now, having seen everyones lists of things they've done and arranged!! I've sorted the venue, registrar, photographer, cake (a friend is doing it), rings and thats about it!!!
Not even sorted my dress yet..i'm having a nightmare!! Must have tried on about 30 dresses and still undecided! Going to have to get one soon or i'll be getting married in a bin bag! Is anyone else as un-planned as me?!!0 -

Don't worry, you've still got a lot done and it's ages away! I would get going on the dress soon if you can though - as some apparently take 6 months to come in and then you need a bit of time for fittings etc. Mind you, my shop said mine would take 6 months but it will have come in in 4 months, so I think 6 months is an outside estimate, but it's better to be safe than sorry!
Is it that there are lots of dresses that are equally nice, or you don't really like any of them? What sort of thing are you going for? I bought the fourth dress I tried on! but I'm pretty decisive and trying on loads of dresses is my idea of hell so I was really pleased to find one I was happy with. Maybe you're overthinking it??0 -

Don't panic about the dress, the best advice I would give is to not try the same styles of dresses every time, try a halter neck and if it doesn't work don't try it again, try a strapless and if it works try it as an a line from the waist and from the hips, one will be better than the other. Try a neckline with sweetheart, try sleeves, try fishtails and short dresses, but never twice. If something really doesn't work at least you know and when you go to the next place you won't waste time putting dresses on that you know won't work for you and you will make progress.
My mum chose my dress, I hated it on the hanger and refused to try it on until I'd tried on 13 dresses in one shop (our first shop visit) everything was a disaster, then mum asked me to try the one she picked and I reluctantly did. It was the best shape on me, it was a great colour on me and although I didn't have a moment and love it straight away, I adore it now!!
You'll be grand missus and you do have plenty of time0 -

Thanks for the reassurance daisiegg - think I'm getting close to picking one but think you've hit the nail on the head - i'm definitrly overthinking it now! I'm the worlds most indecisive person and theres so many that I like I'm struggling to narrow it down! Think i've got it down to 2 now tho, so one last try on with my MOH and Mum next week should get me to decide!0 -

Thanks Cathy! Believe me, I've tried on every style going (apart from the short dress) and I'm definite that I want a strapless, with a sweetheart or shaped neckline, not to puffy and a bit of sparkle! Got it down to two now but I'm pretty sure I know which one I'll go for, but need my MOH and Mum to help! I'm so indecisive!!0 -
Guess it's about time I formally joined the April 2013 thread!
Originally was going to be a September bride but we had a heart to heart last week and my other half told me just how anxious he was about what we had planned (which was actually a tiny and informal event anyway). We talked a lot about our other options and had already booked a trip to the Maldives in April, going back to the island we went to earlier this month, and he feels like having that to look forward to will help him cope with the actual ceremony.
So, we are now getting married at 11am on Wednesday the 10th of April, will have our photos done, a drink with our guests and will then come home to get changed and go to the airport, we fly out at 7pm that night :rotfl:. We are then going to have a reception when we get back with cake etc so it means I get to wear my dress again and my daughter can still be bridesmaid at the ceremony and my mum can wear the custom fascinator she ordered - all important deciding factors.
Fortunately everyone we had booked is happy to change our date so we aren't losing any money. It suddenly feels like it's going to come round quickly, especially as I had arranged everything around September! The only thing I can't use is the invites/STDs I had made on vistaprint. Luckily I 'met' a lovely stationery lady through the local wedding group on facebook and she can do them all for a great price.
So, I have my dress, we have cars and photographer booked, I have someone to do hair and make up booked, I have bits for centrepieces for when we get back, I have a lady lined up to do our cake so it's wedding rings, flowers, suits and bridesmaid dress left to get and things like paperwork and music etc to sort.
I couldn't join a thread without sharing a pic or two could i?
We went engagement ring shopping today and I got this:
I absolutely adore it! I originally saw it last year, in a local long standing independent jewellers but OH never proposed so I never said anything. I walked past the shop in April and it wasn't there but it was the first shop I wanted to go to today and they had another one :T, he said they only make one or two a year as the heart shaped amethyst is hard to come by. Purple is also my favourite colour and I knew I wanted something a little different and this fits the bill perfectly. I can't stop looking at it and OH is really happy that I am happy
Then I popped into New Look and found the most amazing shoes, I have decided they are to be my wedding shoes :rotfl:, nope they aren't very bridal but they are the right colours (colour scheme is mainly purple with splashes of bright pink and orange) and they were £8 (my best friend wanted to buy my shoes so he is thrilled with the price!). I knew if I got 'proper' wedding shoes I would never wear them again.....here goes.......:
Right, just gotta go and email all my suppliers to confirm my date change, oh and stare at my ring some more!
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

Congratulations JTR!
Glad to hear that you have your engagement ring :j and hurrah that you are joining us! :T
Hello to all the (not-so) new April brides!
We've asked my OH's little nieces to be bridesmaids and they are very excited about it - they keep asking their parents when the wedding is!
I find it quite weird that the suppliers we've booked say that they'll be in touch in the new year - my initial reaction is that it's ages away, but really it's only just over 5 months!

Congrats jtr and welcome to the thread! So glad you're a fellow April bride now0

Thanks for the welcome ladies
Well, I am a little gutted, as we thought, my ring is going to have to go back for resizing next weekend , it was an m and a half, and I'm just under an M. We said we would try it for a few days but it twists a lot and I can easily pull it off so I would rather get it done properly.
Fortunately they can turn it around within 48 hours so not all is lost :rotfl:.
Emailed all my suppliers last night and confirmed date change, just the cake lady and reception venue to message but we are flexible on the reception date so not too much worry there.
The only thing I couldn't use is my wedding invites as I'd had the date printed on them, doh. Originally I was going to DIY them as I've made quite a few cards and like crafting but I was trying to be cheap so I got a vistaprint freebie. Anyway, after all the hassle I decided to 'treat' myself (!!) and go with the style of invites I originally liked and fell in love with - wallet style ones . I love pocketfolds but my work mate had them and to be fair, I don't have enough info to fill one out. I had looked on Ebay for blank ones and they were ridiculously expensive so a quick google led to me to PDA Card & Craft.
So I have ordered a total of 14 Aubergine 200mm x 90mm wallets, and 2 Ivory inserts per wallet for the full invitations - day plus evening and then I have another 20 White 200mm x 90mm wallets with white inserts for the evening guests.
Have also got 3 lots of A4 aubergine card that matches the day wallets and some Ivory broderie style card to use as layers etc. Have messaged a lady on Ebay about making me some Wedding Invitation toppers in Ivory/Purple so just waiting to hear back. I went digging through my craft stuff and have some nice Ivory hammered card and white leather effect card, loads of stardust vellum and some other useful bits and bobs so can see me being busy for a few weekends :rotfl:. Only thing I am not sure of is how to print the inserts, I reckon my best mate can figure it out but if not, I will have to print them on to paper and then glue them to the inserts, no biggie.
I have lots of decoration ideas for them but am waiting to get my other stationery bits (table names and buffet plaque) from my facebook lady to see if I want to do something similar. Might even have a go at making some save the date style credit cards too
Edited to add - oooh such a good wedding weekend now!
I wasn't originally going to have a veil but thought it would help cover my tattoos on my back. I started reading up about the different lengths, edges etc and thought I would have a peek on Ebay and there is was....an elbow length two tier pencil edged Ivory veil, brand new with tags (and the original invoice for £39.50 - it was half price then) and I won it for £13.25!!!
Then the facebook stationery lady has messaged me some pics to say she is almost done and my centrepiece names look absolutely stunning!
And then the ebay lady came back and said it was no problem to print the banners in deep purple, hurrah!
Very happily married on 10th April 2013
