I just know I'll forget something important so I listed every little thing, in sections (e.g. before the day, for looking good, church, venue 1, venue 2). Most of that stuff won't be relevant for the day you're having. Ours is more complicated because we have 3 separate venues.
  • Congratulations! :j:beer::j

WOW- what a list!!! A least you're organised to have such a detailed list, I've not even thought about one yet! I'm only doing invitations now as I knew how long it takes and being a teacher, the Summer holidays is the perfect time to do them as its taking me forever!
And you've got your honeymoon booked which is a biggie!!!
  • I had a dream 2 nights ago that the wedding day was that day and nothing was sorted - invites weren't sent and we'd relied on word of mouth and I couldn't find anyone to do my hair and make-up. It was not nice!
  • Hello all you lovely Brides to be,

    CONGRATULATIONS to you all!!

I have spent the whole morning reading this thread and found it all very interesting.

I got engaged Christmas day 2011, my (our) wedding is 4th April 2013. We are getting married in Cyprus in a beautiful chapel. We are also having a reception in England on the 4th May 2013.

So i'm not a money saving expert by far or a shining example of thrift. However, i have done everything my way. Everything i have spent has not been full price and i have ensured i have got a good deal. I love shopping around for what i want at a bargain price!!!

Wedding Planning is soooooo much fun! Maybe i am one of the lucky few or it is the calm before the storm? Who knows? But i have found it all so exciting and enjoyable!!

Apologies in advance for this being a mini essay, feel free to skip.

    Completed so far.........

WEDDING DRESS- After trying on over 20 dresses i went into Berketex in February and saw 'The One'. It was over £1,600. The sales representative suggested i try it on but i ran for the hills after seeing the price!! I thought about it for a few days and it is all i could think about. A week later i attended a Berketex flash sale. It was there!!! I was accompanied by my sister and mother who advised me to try it on and some others. I obliged and none of the others were right. So it came to 'The One'. It was perfect!! My sister said as soon as she saw me in it that my eyes said it all!! Needless to say i bought it!! 20% off and paid all on my 0% credit card accumulating airmiles too. Paid in full.
WEDDING INVITES-All done by our Bestman for free. We didn't do save the date cards. All our invites for Cyprus were sent out last month. We wanted to give everyone plenty of time to decide if they could come and save money.
BRIDESMAIDS DRESSES- By Coast bought in a Debenhams sale 30% off online accumulating Airmiles, Nectar points and Cashback using NHScashback. Still expensive but the ones i wanted in Royal Blue. Paid in full.
WEDDING SHOES- I have always wanted Manolo Blahniks 'Something Blue' from the SATC film.BOUGHT ONLINE At £700 i knew this dream may possibly never be a reality with everyone saying i would be crazy to spend that much. My OH knows i love my designers and never said no. He managed to find them on Ebay- BNIB with evidence of authenticity. I bid and won £170. Most may again feel this is extortionate but i had looked for many alternatives and didn't like any. Payment complete.
GROOMS/MEN SHIRTS & BOW TIES- Bought online whilst on sale with free P&P. Paid in full.
WEDDING RINGS/WEDDING JEWELRY- For these we went over budget oops. On the grounds they would be worn daily, last forever, be handed down to children and possibly gain value. We felt it was allowed?? We got 20% off. My engagement ring cleaned for free. Paid via 0% creditcard and gained airmiles. My wedding jewelry is the gift from my groom to me too. Does all of this make it okay? Payment complete.
CHAPEL/PRIEST- Booked. Can't pay until a week before.
FLIGHTS & HOTEL STAY CYPRUS- Researched and found bargains for both! Also staying at my MIL2be in Cyprus before the wedding for free. Paid via 0% creditcard and gained airmiles (noticing a trend here). Paid in full.
WEDDING INSURANCE- Shopped around and went via NHScashback using Debenhams Insurance. Also collected Nectar points.
PHOTOGRAPHER/VIDEOGRAPHER- Due to having our wedding in Cyprus we have gone with a reccommended Photographer & videographer. We love their work and will cherish the memories forever! It came in £30 over budget but we are having the full works. I wasn't willing to risk anything going wrong!! Deposit paid. To be paid in full on the day.
HOME RECEPTION VENUE- Booked and deposit paid. We looked at various venues. Due to it only being a reception i didn't want to pay over the odds on top of our wedding. We booked with the local conservative club which has a lovely room they use for weddings. It is already very nice and neutral needing minimal decorations. Will still get the chair covers but at £2.50 with the sash and fitting cost included i don't mind. I still want it to look like a wedding reception not just a party.

Okay have i bored you all to death? I forgot how passionate i get! So sorry:o.

Just like to add we are currently negotiating our reception in Cyprus with our hotel. I have found the thread on here regarding negotiating with vendors very helpful!!

    I'm soooooo happy and excited!!!!:D

Well done so far brides to be!!!! I look forward to all of your updates, stories and advice!!!

Welcome Somethingblue! You didn't bore me at all - I'm still in wedding excitability mode, so it's fab hearing about how you're getting on with your planning. It looks like you've got some great bargains!

I went over budget on the rings too - had the same thought that it's the one thing you'll have every day for the rest of your lives so it's the one thing not to skimp on.

With the chair covers, do you have to get them from the venue, or can you go elsewhere? I'm not sure where in the country you are, but I've shopped around and seen deals from £1.50-£2/chair (as well as more expensive ones.)

It is South Staffordshire. Not to far from Wolverhampton. I'm not sure if we are tied to get them via them? If we do get them through the venue we maybe able to get the package cheaper? We have to use their caterers and can't bring in our own alcohol. I was hoping if we 100% commit to them it may put us in a better position to negotiate price? I will definitely look into it though!! Many thanks for the tip lil_miss_insanity!!!

How are your plans coming along? Remind me of your date? Sorry i have read sooo much this morning.

I'm currently in Cyprus just been visiting places and commencing negotiations. The Cypriots are very relaxed and reply in their own time. Not how i like it at all ha ha. It may turn me into a Bridezilla!!! xxxxx

Thank you for your helpful response!!!

    What a horrible dream!!!
