Edinburgher gets cracking!

Thanks very much edinburgher,
I was accepted for the Aqua credit card, instantly, for £500.00 limit, so I am going to use this for my shopping and entertainment expenses each month and set up a DD to get it paid off in full.
FD were excellent on the phone. I thought I might not qualify for the £100.00 because my £1,500.00 would not come from one employer, but from a variety of sources. The lady noted it on the system and said there would be no problem with this. I have set up a regular savings account and an instant access account to avoid paying the £10.00 monthly administration fee.
I am also going to get the £5.00 a month going with the Halifax. I actually have a dormant current account with them, so you have inspired me to get moving on that one too.
Good thing you are not on commission! I have actually been considering all these things for a while, but seeing that you'd bitten the bullet was the push I needed.Weight 12 st 2lb - Now 11 stone 1 lb (-15 lb)

Haha - maybe I should be! Being paid for using a bank is a nice feeling, I'm a big fan of it
Well done for getting started. Not sure if FD mentioned, but their regular saver is unique in that you can 'top up' any payments where the monthly amount is lower. So say you have an unexpected bill in November and only save £50, you're then allowed to pay in £550 in December (max of £300/mth).
I *believe* that Halifax also pay you £5/mth if you spend £300 on their clarity card, so another thing to consider.0 -

Hi Edinburgher
I'm a relative newbie and working my way around the boards/diaries.
Just wanted to wish you well on your MFW journey and I will be (hopefully) sharing/following your progress. I've been inspired to review my finances but not quite 'ready' for a diary yet...love all the tips though.. very useful.BW

There was one thing I wanted to ask (and forgot before) - regarding the Halifax account. I know that it's been said you can transfer the required £1,000 in from another account (rather than it having to be salary). Does it have to stay there for any length of time or can you transfer it out again same day? next day?
I was pondering opening a FD account but didn't want to lose the fiver I currently get each month...
Any advices welcome...0 -

I've read on the current accounts and budgeting board that the money just has to end up in the account (even if it's for a few seconds).0 -
Regarding the Halifax, to get the £5 each month, you have to have a Halifax Reward current account (I think it is just that particular account which will pay this), and yes, you can simply transfer the money from another account. I have had one for some time now. You don't have to have your salary paid in, and the money doesn't have to stay there - I usually use mine to pay bills etc, and move any left over each month elsewhere.0

I pay it in on one day and out the next - just to delay the moment when I use the 1k to OP etc
. I have done a straight in and out before with no problems though.

Thanks Edinburgher, no they didn't mention that! If I am asked to give feedback I would have to say FD Customer Service is great, but MSE Edinburgher is better.
Looking into the clarity card now. Thanks again.Weight 12 st 2lb - Now 11 stone 1 lb (-15 lb)

What's great about it, apart from the £5, is that it is free to withdraw cash abroad. They charge interest from the date of withdrawal, but that is still a lot less than a withdrawal fee. I think we paid around £6 this year on several thousand pounds of withdrawals. And you get a great rate :T.
On line statements are hopeless though.
