Thanks HDK :) As we're only 6 months into our 300 month mortgage, it's all to play for!

It's raining, it's pouring, ideally I'd be snoring :rotfl:

A somewhat slow day on the MFW today - £6 into both the OP Pot and the EF. I'll try and put off checking my eBay items until lunch, it looks like a bidding war is about to erupt over an unused LED lightbulb I'm selling (not one of the dodgy ones!)

Driving lesson tonight, working tomorrow. I had originally planned on working until the end of my current (fixed term) contract at my Saturday job, but it finishes later than I'd hoped. So I think I'll just hand in the required weeks notice tomorrow and call it a day. Makes me feel a teeny bit guilty, but hopefully someone will earn some extra overtime for Christmas as a result.... (justify, justify) :o

    Hi Edinburgher,

I have enjoyed reading your efforts at becoming mortgage free. I think I will pinch a few of your ideas, but I wonder if you mind me picking your brains?

    1. Aqua credit card.

Would this be viewed negatively on a credit reference report, as, I believe, are Wonga and other PDL's?

Do you think that this is a better option than other cash back cards? I have looked at a number and think that this is the best deal.

Are they happy to accept customers with a very good credit rating, who are likely just to be doing this for the cash back?

    2. I am thinking of getting the FD account (£100) and their regular savings account. Is their online facility really easy to access and navigate? How often is the 8% interest paid into the savings account?

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome (and feel free to re-use ideas, that's one of the best things about this forum) :)
    1. Aqua credit card.

Would this be viewed negatively on a credit reference report, as, I believe, are Wonga and other PDL's?

Using PDLs can impact upon your chances of accessing other sources of credit as it looks like you are in current financial difficulties. Using a credit card (albeit one that looks borderline subprime), is very different.

When looking at credit applications, I believe the total number of credit cards and total ratio of available credit vs. credit used are more important factors than who issued the card. It is still a 'real' credit card.
Do you think that this is a better option that other cash back cards? I have looked at a number and think that this is the best deal.

All things considered (ease of use, T&Cs etc.) this looks like the best deal available at the moment unless you plan any massive spends in the short term (some other cards look good for this).
Are they happy to accept customers with a very good credit rating, who are likely just to be doing this for the cash back?

I'm not sure, as I have an *ok* credit rating. That said, I've had no problems getting a mortgage or a current account with FD (who are picky). I'd read up on the credit cards board for more feedback...
Is their online facility really easy to access and navigate? How often is the 8% interest paid into the savings account?

It's maybe a little basic compared to other banks online offerings, but it does everything it needs to. Also, they have *fantastic* UK customer service on the phone and you get through quickly, without screeds of menus.

The regular saver pays out at the end of the term (i.e. one year after you open it).

As always, do your own research as well to make an informed decision :)
  • MFW is always slow the couple of weeks before payday...doing well though.
