    Hi Piq

Just popping in to see how things are. I agree re trying Linked In..I found it useful when I left a job last year to take stock and see ( prove to myself?) that I did have contacts and that there were people I knew who respected me and could have helped me or made introductions or connections. I agree ( and have said before!) that the redundancy is about a post, a position and not you as an individual. In the kind of sector you were in, too, they seem in for another rocky ride. There was an article in the Times about it just today. City law firms etc in for another quiet and less than quiet cull of fee earning staff..just like in 2008/2009

Keep on doing the things you are doing and I think things will come good. Make sure you keep up the writing!!

I have signed on Chev and I've been paid my first payment. I took your advice first time! I wrote up about it on here a few pages back. It was a memorable experience as there was a fight while I was there!

The difficult thing about LinkedIn for me at the moment is how to write the piece that says I'm out of work without it sounding negative. It needs to have a positive spin to it. I'd thought about putting something about doing freelance writing and brand consultancy in. But because of my feelings about not working and because it's so close to me, I can't get those words together. Not a good thing for someone who wants to write!:rotfl:

I am still writing, everyday I write on the forum somewhere and I always do a piece about something I've read, experienced or seen and save it to my random bits files, they will be useful one day.

    Thanks for your reply :)

Could you do some sort of training? Reason being I am a secretary/admin ish by trade (not really trained just fell into it after horses and kind of stuck ) and in current role have taken on more work.

Currently trying to write documents for pre-qualification questionnaires to get onto tender and approved lists. I dont have a clue what I am doing, the person doing this before me had a degree in engineering, I just have experience in the business (construction for my sins!!). What I struggle with is how to write things, put things down etc, know what I want to say but cant think of how to say it. Currently looking around for training providers that may help this and wondered whether this is something that you could do, go into small companies and help them out??

That's an idea worth thinking about. I can write and ask the questions but don't know who to do it for! Maybe we should join forces.

As I said earlier I need to change my LinkedIn profile but don't know what to put so that people contact me with work. Once I change it a notification will go out to all my contacts about 200 of them. I have a one off chance to get it right. I do not want to use the word unemployed. Because it's me, I'm struggling to blow my own trumpet!

Good idea, I'll give it a go later. I'm not procrastinating I've been really busy this morning, so far I have:

Put two items on eBay - felt a bit in awe at how much Brizzle is doing on Ebay, I'm going to try to put on an item a day.

Run through the jobs online, nothing is leaping out at me, unfortunately.

Joined the library online, suddenly occurred to me I might need i.d. and I may not get very far when I turn up tomorrow for research purposes. Wonderfully easy!

Listed 20 DVDs with music magpie, not much return, but there are plenty more to go. Decluttering and making money in one step!

Mended a pair of breeches. I realised mending is something of a dying art, and will write something up about it, sure it could go into a magazine one day. So many people I know, just buy a new item, even if it's only a button that needs sewing back on. I am dumbfounded that they don't even possess a needle and thread! Double whammy there, mended breeches and an idea for an article!

Completed my mortgage insurance claim, I need the job centre to fill in their bit then I will send it off. I have already walked to the village post office to buy the stamps. I've just got the housing benefit bit from the DWP to complete, but as I have insurance there shouldn't be too much work there. That's my first job for after lunch.

Done first aid on the Bear. I knew it was him taking on the resident ginger tom. He lives down the road and the owner won't get him 'done' says it's cruel. In the meantime, he sprays everywhere, picks fights with all the male cats in the area and generally makes a pain of himself. Poor Bear has a bitten ear, I've cleaned it and hope it doesn't get infected, I really don't need a vet bill!

Later on I'm going to make some soda bread, I've been given some buttermilk by a friend who doesn't like it. I've never made soda bread before, but I think it will be nice with the cauliflower cheese I'll be making for dinner.

Hello Piq, just been having a catch up and would like to offer a hug though belatedly [I consider one can never have too many in a day though]. I do remember that feeling exhausted feeling due to not sleeping 'cos of worrying about not having work/money. In the end I did a course about getting women back into work which had the ECDL qualification as part of it as I thought I might have to go into admin type work but I kept applying for things and did get a job eventually. Its soul destroying at the time though.

Don't know if it would help or make you feel cringey [is that a word] but could you write something for Linkedin and post it in your thread first and see how you feel about it there in print? Not sure if that would work?

Poor poorly Bear hope he recovers, tom cats can be so terratorial - Mr A is a major culprit and the cat over the road winds him up. We had a vet visit today as Mr A ate loads of grass yesterday and sicked up some blood which of course panicked me a bit. He now has some antacid pills to take as vet thinks he might just have overheaved a burst a wee blood vessel. Certainly Mr A is well in himself and was chucking his cat nip mouse about at 6.30am

Yum to soda bread, supposed to be easyish to make as it doesn't need all that kneading malarky. Macaroni cheese here tonight :D

    ummmm soda bread :D

    Evening all!

Another fantastic warm day here - makes everything seem so much better.

Well I did the deed today and told work I didn't want to apply for one of the posts they offered me. Managed to get a reasonable redundancy payment and am carrying on working until the end of May, then will get my 3 months notice period.

Piq - glad to hear you have managed to claim JSA! I look forward to many stories about your excursions to the job centre!

Hope you all had a good day.

    Noo

Oh Teapot, there is no such thing as a belated hug! The hug is all wrapped round me right now, thank you! and you have very eloquently put exactly how I feel. I fight it all the time, I can't afford to go down. The hug and empathy have made me feel so much better.

I've had a go at writing a new profile for Linkedin, I'm not sure if it's the way I want to go. I'm going to have a look at something called oDesk first, apparently it's a good place to get writing work from. I'm not going to go live with anything tonight as I've had a couple of glasses of wine and that may cloud my judgement!

The Bear seems alright, his ear is a little tender, but it's not hot and he's still eating enough for an elephant. He's also stalked up and down the path with that swagger that cats have. He's scent marked everything in sight, including my car, which has it's own very strong aroma. You open the door and nearly pass out at the smell of horse. My family refuse to travel in it and insist on taking their own cars. :rotfl: Meaning that I get lifts to family events, saves money and I can have a drink! Absolute result!

You can call collect your hug whenever you need it Teapot.
