Morning P (and friends)
JC sounds horrible but at least you got £7.40 and I love the idea of walking around the beauty spots picking up samples - I might try that next time I am near the big shops
I just found out yesterday that someone I know (who is now retired) has just published a book - all on her own - at the moment its available to download on kindle for 98pbut she is hoping to get it published in paper too
Reading the short bit they put on amazon I am intrigued to read the rest as I never would of thought of her as a writer. Shows it can be done!
Cant wait to be reading yours .......0 -
I've hit a brickwall, for my next assignment. I know what I want to write about, the job searching, the agencies and the job centre. I'd like to write it from an intelligent woman standpoint and how soul destroying the whole exercise can be.
However, partially because I don't buy magazines anymore (mse) and partially because most magazines seem to be celebrity orientated, I'm having difficulty finding out which magazine would be suitable for such an article.
Many of the magazines don't accept non-commissioned work, Woman & Home for one. I have the Writer's & Artists' Yearbook for reference, but it's not proving much help and my mind is a complete blank on where to go from here.
I have to buy the magazine to analyse readership, advertising, article style and write my piece accordingly.

Piq..I have only been away moments and here you are with all this new stuff ( news and comment!)
Sounds like you lucked out..beauty samples and travel expenses. Result!
Good to hear from a New Forester Tig...such a lovely part of the world. We spent Easter camping, cycling and eating and drinking our way around it last year. Suspect we will go back next weekend we can...
Re the magazines..well I can probably help..I used to like them..too many train journeys...but now am trying to be MSE so only subscribe to one. Red. I usually hand on old copies to my neighbour..but can send you one if you like. Just PM me your address. to my mind, with the demise of Eve, it's the best one to try for. They have twitter accounts and quite a big online presence etc so may be worth trying to get in touch anyway. It does have celebrity interviews..this month it's Claire Danes but its not gossip.
Theres a real dearth of sensible magazines I think..maybe we should all start one!!!! Go into business together!! Am sure we could find the full range of skillsets on these diary threads!

Hello, I am a former New Forester as well - now relocated along the South Coast. It was Gorgeous George's home stomping ground for a little over half his life. We loved terrorizing the holiday makers. Best one was when Small Sister borrowed him for the Duke of Edinburgh expedition thing (- she organized it as walking was boring, first one was horses, second was bikes and third was I think walking as she was bored by then.) and he "escaped" into the pub car park and mugged some old dear for her crisps. Id disowned him for that day.
Very sad news from NF today, Tabitha the last remaining "family" pet has passed away. She developed diabetes, a UTI and kidney failure in the past 2 days and did not respond to treatment so at the age of 18 or possibly 19 (we can't remember exactly) Mum had to do the dutiful.
RIP Tabby - we will miss you scolding the birds when they fly past the window and into the hedge disturbing your slumber in the sun on the windowsill.Start info Dec11

Woman and Home would have been an obvious one
. I agree with Red. Shame you're not over 50 as Saga and Yours spring to mind.
Easy Living
Prima
Zest or maybe Top Sante (focusing on staying fit, focused, motivated, eating healthily on a limited budget)
The Lady
My Weekly
Weekly News
More downmarket - Bella, Take a Break, Chat etc
Money Observer & Moneywise - on budgeting, planning etc.
Aha -- national newspaper magazines. Take your pick - any would be suitable and you could tailor accordingly:
Sun - looking for work leaves me no time for shopping and sex, but JC is a good pick up joint
Times/Telegraph - impact of recession & the JC on intelligent, middle class workers
Guardian - surviving unemployment by knitting my own yogurt
Indie or i - looking for alternative means of employment/self employment
Mail - immigrants stole my job and shove me out of my queue in the JC.
Express - I saw Diana in the JC
etcA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
