I've just returned from my first meeting with my advisor, this isn't the person who I have to see every other week to sign on. This is the person who is going to help me find a job and advise me how and what to apply for.

My appointment was for 2:00pm, naturally, I was a bit early, so had to sit in the [STRIKE]prison visitors[/STRIKE] waiting area. I was sat opposite a man with the words 'f*** all the b*****s'. I could tell he was serious about getting a job. He kept sniffing loudly, I really, really wanted to tell him to use a tissue....but decided it probably wouldn't be good for my health.

I met my advisor, he was quite nice in a totally ineffectual way. He perked up a quite a bit when I told him I was taking a writing course and planned to do my first magazine article on being unemployed and going to the Job Centre.

I found out that you can do any course costing up to £1000, or more in special circumstances, providing you can get an employer to guarantee you employment when you gain the relevant qualification - interesting. He also paid me for my car mileage, so I came out with £7.40 in cash - unexpected result.

We agreed I was doing all the right things and there wasn't a lot that he could do there and then, but he says he's going to look later and drop me an email. His whole demeanor changed when I said I wanted to write and was going to write about this experience!

As I'd had the cash handout, I felt lucky, so went and blagged samples of nine different moisturisers from the likes of Clarins, Clinique, YSL and others. That will keep me going until I go into town next!

I still haven't heard back from any applications yet, but I am going to chase the local one I was interested in.

    Hi Piq,
sounds like you have had an exciting day! I always fancied myself as the next Beatrix Potter when i was younger, i used to love writing books and poetry but havent had the time since the kids came along. Its something i'd love love love to get back to it and you are really inspiring me.

It sounds like you had an eventful day at the job centre! I hate going to my local jobcentre! I had to go from June-Sept last year (summer holidays from uni and i coudnt get a job :() and it was really a mixed bag. Some days i'd see people just like me, just normal people trying their best to find a job, but a lot of the time i saw people sat outside smoking and drinking beer at 9.30am, with their little kids in pushchairs. It was a horrid experience! But mine is in a city centre, so i imagine a town one would be nicer?

I wasnt aware that you could get yout travel costs reimbursed? I was never told about this! I will have to look into it if i am in that situation again.

Sorry, i am babbling on your diary now!

Thank you, that's a really kind thing to say, I don't think I've inspired many people before! You have a gift if you can write poetry, give it go when you have a quiet moment. Put it aside and come back to it later. Your poetry would be the most wonderful gift for your children to cherish when they are grown up.

I don't think my Job Centre is any better or any worse than any other. They are there to do a function and the staff are probably ground into the ground by the morning beer swilling masses and the folk in obscene tee shirts, it must be hard to care what happens to any of them.

The chap I saw today, changed when I spoke to him as a human being and told him what I was going to do. From then on, he tried to help. At least I got £7.40!

    Carry on babbling!!!!

Of course I don't mind, come on in and make yourself at home!

I'm not inspirational, I just pulled everything in and got on with it! The debt's not going down at the moment as I need the money to live on until I get a job. Hopefully, today I'll hear something.

All fired up on the writing front now, as moo2moo has had some of her work published! How clever is she? I want to emulate her!

Please pop in whenever you like.

I rarely plan my adventures, but the Captain is on my to-do list today! Who knows what will be going on his little horsey brain...

I've been over to your diary and see that you are very busy as usual.

Why do cats do 'scat cat'?

At the moment the Bear is racing round the house, up and down the stairs, pausing to have a frenetic washing session then back to 'scat cat'. Incidentally, he weighs a lot more when he does this, I can tell from the noise he makes, he sounds like he's wearing Timberland boots, four of them....
